Of all the places actress Rose McGowan could have celebrated her birthday, the “Charmed” alum decided a Parisian cemetery was the perfect spot. As McGowan turned 53 on September 5, 2026, she posted a video of herself standing in front of two towering tombs and sporting a new hair color.
In the caption of her post, McGowan wrote, “Virgo is a powerful sign. The kind of power that can’t be bought. Happy we are alive day. Living is resistance 🔥”

The actress, who’s been sporting a short, bleached blonde hairdo in recent months, looked chic in a black halter dress, white Chuck Taylors, and a cute new auburn-colored pixie cut, McGowan spoke to her followers from the cemetery.
She happily said, “Happy birthday to me and all Virgos, coming from Père Lachaise cemetery, where I’m hanging out with some beautiful, calm, dead people today. But we, the living, it’s our day. So, I want you to approach this one with a lot of energy. Do that for me, okay?”
Before walking out of the camera shot, she winked and said, “We got this.”
Père Lachaise cemetery is the largest and most-visited cemetery in the City of Lights, according to the Paris Office of Tourism. It’s named after the confessor of King Louis XIV, Father François d’Aix de La Chaise, and contains 70,000 burial plots, with a wide array of Gothic tombs, Haussmannian vaults, and ancient mausoleums.
The cemetery is the after-life home to quite a few famed personalities, including The Doors’ lead singer Jim Morrison, French singer Edith Piaf, famed composer Frédéric Chopin, and late 1800s author/playwright Oscar Wilde.

GettyMcGowan is best known for her 90s independent films like “The Doom Generation” and “Scream” and for replacing Shannen Doherty on “Charmed” in 2001, playing Paige Matthews, the long-lost half-sister of the Halliwell sisters, until the series’ end in 2006.
Soon after, she became very involved in Hollywood’s #MeToo movement, but eventually decided to leave the industry — and LA — in 2020. In early 2025, she shared during a panel at 90s Con that she had moved to Mexico and was loving it.
“My father lived in Mexico for 35 years and mi gusta Mexico,” she said, according to People. “Te quiero much, mi amores. It is an incredible country. It is so wildly geographically diverse, culturally diverse and just very, very special. There’s so much joy.”
McGowan continued, “My favorite word in Spanish is alegria, which means joy, and there’s so much of that there and color and and passion and and fun and different … just different. And you know I had to talk for a lot of years, kind of more than normal people might.”
“There’s a point where I just got really talked out,” she said. “I just wanted to listen. I wanted silence, and I wanted to listen more than I wanted to talk.”
Fans flooded her birthday post with well-wishes, and some thanked her for sharing that she spent the day in a cemetery, including one who wrote, “What a unique way to spend your birthday. Death is a difficult topic for me but this just shows it can be beautiful too. I’m so glad you are here and are continuing to move forward, in your own spiritual way. Life has so many more incredible things in store for you. These things will continue to find you. I’m so happy you were born on this day.”
