Stanley Tucci Has the Perfect 5-Ingredient Pasta Dish for a Busy Night

You’re just getting home from work, and you need to cook dinner before rushing the kids around for their extracurricular activities. The last thing you want is something intricate with lots of ingredients, and Stanley Tucci gets that. He’s joining a number of celebrities showing off one of his favorite meals that was taught to him while in Rome.

The dish has just five ingredients, and the main ingredient is zucchini. You can even cut out an ingredient if you don’t want to make it spicy, but that’s going to be a personal choice. Tucci shares that he heats up a pan of olive oil with garlic and a pepperoncino, and says that he just used one but you can pop in more if you like.

The video, shared on Tucci’s own Instagram, starts with him in the kitchen, explaining the start of cooking. He then adds the zucchini, before delving into the ingredients he’ll use later. All you need is:

  • Olive oil
  • Garlic
  • Pepperoncino
  • Zucchini
  • Pasta (and the water)
  • Cheese

So, technically, that is six ingredients. Does anybody really count the oil as an ingredient, considering you need that to cook anyway? Plus, there’s the salt and pepper, which aren’t counted either, and if you don’t want the spice, then the pepperoncino is taken out.

He made the meal in front of everyone in the Instagram Reel, sharing that he wasn’t straining the water from the pasta — he used spaghetti, but you can use whatever you want — because he needed a little bit of the water for cooking the dish. He did boil the pasta separately, so one of the downsides is that this isn’t a one-pot meal, but it’s still quick and easy for a weeknight dinner.

Fans React — Mostly About the Metal Utensils

If you struggled to listen to the “Inside Man” star’s video because of the metal utensils scraping on the bottom of the pan, you were not alone. As soon as that started, fans took to the comments to share their thoughts and opinions. There were plenty of questions about whether the bottom of the pan was being scratched.

One user commented: “The sound of the tongs scraping the pan is awful. Isn’t that pan getting scratched, too? A wooden spoon or a silicone spoon would be a better choice. Other than that, it looks delicious! 😋”

Another shared that they have the same pan, and also added a little tip on an extra ingredient to just add some extra zing to the meal: “I just bought and received this beautiful pan- are you supposed to be using metal utensils on it? I thought I read only silicone and wood? Great recipe- I add a little lemon peel as well! Grazie!”

A third followed up saying: “Doesn’t that scratch the pan? Sounds like nails on a black board 🤣🤣
Pasta looks great, I’ve made that a lot after seeing your recipe a few years ago.”

The overall consensus is that the meal itself is delicious. A few people had other suggestions for the cooking process and for the type of pasta and cheese to use, but in general, most people said the same thing, and that was that they didn’t make enough. It’s going to be a hit in the house, and it’s possible to make the portions as big or as small as needed to suit the family’s needs.
