‘Idol’ Alum John Foster Honors Country Legends With New Grand Ole Opry Performance

“American Idol” season 23 runner-up John Foster made his third appearance at the Grand Ole Opry on August 21 singing covers of classic country tunes. Foster posted a clip of his performance on Instagram singing George Jones’ “Who’s Gonna Fill Their Shoes.”

Foster wrapped up the song with a sweet message to the audience. After thanking his backing band and the Opry, he said, “I love y’all so much, and like I said, with y’all’s help I pray to God that I can fill those shoes.”

The 19-year-old Louisiana native concluded by tipping his hat to the crowd and saying, “I love country music. God bless y’all.”

Foster captioned the post, “No one will ever be able to truly fill the shoes of the country legends who made this genre what it is. But by the grace of God—and with your support—I’ll do my best to follow in their footsteps and keep the heart of country music alive.”

John Foster Is Getting Lots of Love From Fans

Many fans took to the comment section of Foster’s post to praise his performance. “True Entertainer,” one fan wrote. “Love the older Country, Excited to hear what new music you are working on.” Another comment read, “That song is beautiful and he is an amazing singer … bless you young man.”

Even the official “American Idol” Instagram page popped in to cheer Foster on with three clapping hands emojis.

And Foster seems to be enjoying the well-earned adoration. He reposted a meme to his Instagram stories that featured his photo and the text “If You Think Real Country Music Is Dead Then You Just Haven’t Heard John Foster Yet.” The singer wrote over the pic, “I’m John Foster, and I approve this message” along with a laugh emoji.

Foster Is Become a Grand Ole Opry Fave

The Opry’s Country Classics show marked Foster’s third time at the venue, which is considered to be country music’s biggest stage. The “American Idol” alum made his Opry debut in June, then returned for another performance on July 9th which happened to be his birthday.

The Opry posted a reel ahead of Foster’s performance in which he was gifted a fresh pair of Durango cowboy boots. “Second time in the circle with a fresh pair of boots all on your 19th birthday? Now that’s special. Right, @officialjohnfoster?” the caption read.

Foster will be back on the Grand Ole Opry stage yet again on September 13 for Opry 100, along with “Idol” winner, judge, and now country superstar Carrie Underwood.
