Angelina Jolie Is Selling Her ‘Legendary’ Los Angeles Estate for $30 Million

Along with being an actress, filmmaker and humanitarian, Angelina Jolie is also a mother who will soon have an empty nest. The youngest of the star’s six children, the twins, are both 17 and will likely be moving on in the near future. That’s perhaps one of the reasons why Jolie has just put her L.A. home on the market.

Selling the “legendary Los Angeles estate” for just under $30 million, “Jolie, 50, purchased the extraordinary dwelling, which was once home to iconic filmmaker Cecil B. DeMille, for $24.5 million in 2017, less than a year after she filed for divorce from fellow on-screen star Brad Pitt, and it has served as her primary residence ever since,” according to Realtor.com.

The Estate Is Part of Hollywood History

Offering 11,000 square feet as well as 6 bedrooms and 10 bathrooms, the house itself is part of “an iconic compound from which Hollywood’s future was shaped, and where Mr. DeMille helped define the industry as the entertainment capital of the world,” according to the listing from Jon Grauman of Resident Group and Ernie Carswell of Sotheby’s International Realty.

The listing also mentions the fact that, “[o]riginally conceived in 1913 by architect B. Cooper Corbett, the high-walled estate stands as a cornerstone of Hollywood’s architectural and cultural legacy.”

Picked up by DeMille in 1916, the listing notes that the residence “quickly evolved into a sanctuary of cinematic innovation and social grandeur.”

Not long after, in 1920, DeMille decided to snap up “the neighboring Dodd residence — once home to Charlie Chaplin — and is believed to have collaborated with Julia Morgan to unite the two homes by way of a graceful glass corridor,” the listing points out, while adding that “[t]his union of artistry and vision transformed the property into a singular masterpiece, embodying the glamour and creative force of Hollywood’s Golden Age.”

“Set across 2.1 lush acres,” per the listing, the estate boasts “[t]owering century-old trees, rolling lawns, and complete privacy frame a distinguished collection of structures, including a stately Beaux-Arts-style mansion, guest house studio with living room fireplace and private gated entry, pool house and fitness studio, tea house, and a separate garage with security station.” The property also offers enviable views of the Hollywood Hills and Griffith Observatory.

Finally, the listing notes that the estate, which was “[l]ovingly maintained by the DeMille family into the late 1980s, … has changed hands just once per generation.”

Is Angelina Jolie Leaving Los Angeles?

This real estate-related move by Jolie — along with no reports of her purchasing a new home in the area — seems to back up the belief that she’ll soon be leaving Los Angeles. In fact, it was the actress herself who sparked the idea that she might be heading off to a home elsewhere.

In August 2024, The Hollywood Reporter asked Jolie, “When your kids are grown, will you stay in L.A.?”

“I grew up in this town. I am here because I have to be here from a divorce, but as soon as they’re 18, I’ll be able to leave,” she responded. “When you have a big family, you want them to have privacy, peace, safety. I have a house now to raise my children, but sometimes this place can be … that humanity that I found across the world is not what I grew up with here.”

As for where she plans to go, she explained, “I’ll spend a lot of time in Cambodia. I’ll spend time visiting my family members wherever they may be in the world.”
