Hours after her passing was announced by her family on August 25, 2026, the “American Idol” judge posted a photo of black and white throwback photo of Parton on social media and a beautiful reflection on her legacy.
Bryan wrote, “Her light, being a strong Tennessee woman, songwriting, charisma, wittiness, and the ability to make fun of herself and the ability to inspire the world is what I think about when I think of Dolly. When you live your life and people can recognize you by one name, Dolly, I think that says it all. Rest in peace Dolly.”

His fellow “American Idol” judge, Carrie Underwood, wrote a touching Instagram tribute that called Parton “the epitome of faith, grace, talent, beauty and humor” and noted that the legend “was probably the one person on planet Earth that everyone loved and could agree on.”
