“DWTS” legend Derek Hough is expecting a baby any day now with his wife, troupe member Hayley Erbert, and the dancer is trying anything and everything to induce labor. First, she and the “Dancing With the Stars” judge and former pro danced it out in an Instagram video which Derek captioned, “Apparently, the secret to inducing labor is to dance so ridiculously that even the baby wants out just to escape the embarrassment.”
Now, Hayley is trying more tricks to speed up the baby’s appearance. In a post to his Instagram Stories he shared on the night of December 18, Derek showed his wife biting into a salad at Caitoti Pizza in Studio City before quipping, “Okay, apparently this salad induces labor! Look!” He then panned his camera to a chalkboard on the wall with the title “Salad Babies” and a list of handwritten notes listing the babies who have been born as a result of their mothers eating the dish.
Legend abounds in California that a special salad from Caioti can induce labor, according to ABC 7.
“Infamous for inducing labor. We will see,” said Hayley, as she took a bite. “We’ll see!” Derek agreed.
Derek Hough’s Cat Adorably Plays With Hayley Erbert’s Baby Bump
Derek Hough posted a video on the evening of December 18 showing the couple’s cat hilariously batting at Hayley’s bump.
The cat nipped at Hayley’s hand and stepped onto her stomach, before cutely staring into her face. “Palo is ready for baby Hough,” Derek captioned the sweet clip.
Derek and Hayley’s fans are more than ready to welcome the baby. One wrote, “Ooh belly dropping. I’m sure it won’t be long! Prayers she has a smooth delivery for her and baby.”
Another follower commented, “Palo using the baby bump as a vehicle to get closer to give mom kisses. So sweet.”
Derek’s sister, “DWTS” judge and former pro competitor Julianne Hough, showed her emotions by commenting with a sweet string of emojis that included teary eyes, a crying face, and a red heart.
Derek Hough & Wife Announced Pregnancy In July
Derek and Hayley announced they had a baby on the way back in July 2025 with a sweet video reveal on Instagram which they captioned, “We can’t believe the biggest thing to happen to us could be so small.”
In the big reveal, the pair shared a hug and a kiss before the camera moved to show Hayley holding up a set of ultrasound photos.
One of the first people to congratulate them on the news was Derek’s fellow “DWTS” judge Carrie Ann Inaba, who wrote, “Omg! Congratulations! Baby Hough! I am so happy for you both!”
I would think that hot spicy food would make it a bit uncomfortable for the baby
and that might help induce labor. It appeared to work for a friend of mine.
