“Dancing With the Stars” judge Derek Hough and his wife, former troupe member Hayley Erbert, have made their love for animals part of their everyday lives. Their Instagram pages are filled with sweet snapshots of their pack of cats and dogs.
They’re also just as happy diving into the ocean to swim alongside sea creatures whenever they get the chance. However, the couple, who recently announced they were expecting their first child, was staying in a hotel room and found themselves with an unexpected visitor sharing their hotel room with them.
Tiny Little Visitor
While in the hotel room, Hough shared a video with his followers on Instagram showing a little mouse frolicking around their room. In the video, the Houghs can be heard trying to coax the little mouse to come out and eat.
Derek even gives the little guy a nickname, Remy, like the chef rat in “Ratatouille.” In the video, Hough says, “Ok, there’s a mouse in our room.” He then zooms in on their tiny little visitor, who can be seen hiding under the TV console. “There he is,” Hough excitedly said.
Hayley adds, “We’re not gonna hurt you, you just wanna go outside maybe? You’re so tiny! I wanted to open the door for you!”
They continue to try and get the mouse to come out, even going so far as to put out some French fries for Remy to eat. Derek said, “Go get the fries, bro! It’s OK! Hey bussy. Is it Remy? Remy, right?”
What Would You Do?
While sharing the video, Derek Hough wanted to know what other would do. He took a little poll to see what his fans would do in the situation. Hough captioned the video, “We found a little mouse in our hotel room last night. Would you:
- Try to get him/her out
- Sleep with the mouse still in the room
- Change rooms.”
Fans quickly jumped to the comments and most were voting to change hotels. One fan wrote, “Change hotel. Where there is 1 there are 100!😳” Another fan added, “Oh my gosh!! 😮 You guys are so chill about it. I would be freaking out. And DEFINITELY changing rooms, maybe even hotels. 😬 I know that sounds dramatic, but I am not good with little rodents like that. But you guys are so sweet for trying to get it to go outside.”
Others were worried about Hayley being pregnant and sharing a room with a mouse. One person commented, “Change rooms. Your wife is pregnant!!😮😮😮,” and another added, “Hayley is pregnant and should not stay in a room with a mouse.”
Despite the calls for the “DWTS” couple to leave the room and hotel, they opted for staying in the room. Hayley commented on the post, “Our new little friend 🥰 We, in fact, did not leave the room. We fed him some food and are letting him enjoy the space. 🤣.”
As one fan wrote, “That little fella found the two kindest people on the planet to bunk with!! 🥰 🐭”
“Dancing With the Stars” season 34 premieres on Tuesday, September 16 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC and Hulu.
