Derek Hough and his wife, Hayley Erbert, are patiently awaiting the arrival of their first child, and the happy couple has shared their journey publicly. The “Dancing with the Stars” professional dancer and Season 34 judge gave fans a glimpse into the sweet bond he and Erbert have, and their excitement for their baby, when he played a song to see if their unborn child reacted.
Derek Hough & Hayley Erbert Share Sweet Parenting Moment
In the video, which was posted on Instagram on October 18, Hough is sitting at the piano while Erbert sits on a chair at the end of the piano, cradling her bump. Lyrics include, “Dancing through life, pointless and careless, make sure you’re wearless, troubles arise …” Hough looks passionate about his song and piano playing, but there was no action from the little one.
“Safe to say, baby is asleep,” Erbert declares. “Didn’t move once.”
Hough laughs and declares he has to play either “louder or better.”
Their baby may not have reacted to his new song, but the moment is adorable, and fans have flooded the comment section with sweet messages for the soon-to-be parents.
“I didn’t know you could sing and play piano too. Wow! You guys are gonna be the best parents,” a fan shared. “So precious that baby will be the best dancer and singer ever,” another person wrote.
“I didn’t know Derek could sing too!! He can literally do everything! You guys are going to be the best parents!!” a third comment reads.
“This is soooooo sweet,” DWTS Season 34 competitor Scott Hoying commented.
Singer Natasha Bedingfield reacted with, “You guys baby is going to be so Beautiful. So excited for you.”
Derek Hough & Hayley Erbert’s Pregnancy Journey
The video comes just days after Hough and Erbert made the heartbreaking announcement that this baby is their rainbow baby. They lost their first child due to miscarriage. On October 15, the couple shared information about their miscarriage in an Instagram post. In the video, the text reads, “Although we are so excited to be welcoming our rainbow baby so soon, we honor our baby that never made it Earthside.”
Their joint caption reads, “There are some things in life that change you forever. For us, this is one of those things. A chapter of love, loss, heartbreak, and everything in between. As we are now in October, Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month, we share this part of our story to honor our baby that never made it earthside. One in four pregnancies end in miscarriage, a silent heartbreak so many families know, and one we unfortunately had to experience. As we share this, know that there’s a rainbow not far behind.”
