Tyler Cameron gave producers the “quickest yes ever” when he was offered a spot on “Dancing with the Stars,” (DWTS) The “Bachelor Nation” alum told PEOPLE in a recent exclusive interview that he did not need to think twice about the offer to join the cast for season 35, where he is paired with returning pro Sharna Burgess.
However, for Cameron, his quick response was not simply a spur-of-the-moment decision; it was more about maintaining a track record and making memories to “look back on forever.” “I mean, to get to be in this room, do this dance, do all these things, have an amazing partner like this.
It’s an incredible journey that you’re going to look back on forever,” he said. This is also not the first time Cameron has committed to a televised competition, and if his previous performances are anything to go by, he could be a contestant to watch in the ballroom.
Tyler Cameron Has an Impressive Competition Track Record
Ballroom contestants who want to excel in the competitive franchise that is “Dancing with the Stars” need to be able to handle technical choreography on a deadline and endure physical extremes without giving in.
Fortunately, Cameron is well-prepared for that, as his résumé already includes two very different tests of endurance. In 2022, he was part of Fox’s “The Real Dirty Dancing,” which saw celebrities relearn the film’s most iconic routines and perform them.
Cameron was able to make it to the finale and finished as a runner-up, which gave him real experience training and performing full choreography under a grueling schedule similar to the one DWTS contestants face each week.
A year later, Cameron competed on Fox’s “Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test,” where he pushed himself in the mountains of New Zealand. The quasi-military competition saw Cameron struggle through winter training for eight days, endure combat simulations, and battle sleep deprivation. Displaying grit, he was among three celebrities to complete the course and be named a winner of the season, alongside Nick Viall and Erin Jackson.
Why All That Could Help Tyler Cameron on DWTS
The two shows are proof Cameron has the qualities needed to tough it out on “Dancing with the Stars,” where ballroom competitors train for hours each day while learning new routines they must perform on live TV.
Cameron’s past experiences may give him an edge, as he may be less likely than a typical first-time contestant to shrink under the pressure of tight deadlines or grueling training. He also has an experienced partner in Sharna Burgess, who is returning to the DWTS stage for the first time in five years.
Cameron has expressed excitement about the prospect of sharing “the great comeback of Sharna,” and while Burgess herself is looking forward to competing again, she has admitted to having mixed emotions. “It’s like, two things can be true. It feels like I never left; it’s like riding a bike. Being in the room is easy.”
Cameron Will Also Have Plenty of Support
Cameron is confident about his chances with Burgess, but he will also have plenty of support in the form of his fiancée, Tate Madden, who he says will be in the ballroom cheering him on every week. The pair got engaged on August 15, and Cameron said Madden, a dancer herself, was thrilled to see Burgess, Witney Carson, and the other cast members.
For now, it remains to be seen how Cameron and Sharna Burgess’ partnership will fare in season 35 of DWTS. However, with Burgess’ experience and Cameron’s competitive track record, the pair could emerge as real contenders for the Mirrorball.
