Disney+ is reportedly not moving forward with the live-action adaptation of hit superhero series “Power Rangers.”
The project was set up for development at the streamer in March 2025 with the showrunners of “Percy Jackson and the Olympians,” Jonathan E. Steinberg and Dan Shotz, Deadline reported.
However, it has now been revealed that the live-action adaptation will not move beyond the development stage.
Why ‘Power Rangers’ Live-Action is No Longer Happening?
Sources told the outlet that the reason behind Disney+ passing on the “Power Rangers” is not due to the creative issues, but more on the business side of things.
Deadline noted that producing a high-caliber, live-action superhero series like “Power Rangers” requires a significant investment, but the economics are less favorable when the streamer or production studio does not own the IP, which is the case here.
The “Power Rangers” brand is owned by Hasbro, which has reportedly been seeking a live-action series adaptation for a while now.
In 2021, Netflix released the live-action “Power Rangers: Dino Fury,” which was later rebranded to “Power Rangers: Cosmic Fury” for its third and final season in 2023. The streaming giant also released “Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once & Always,” featuring some of the original cast members.
Live-Action Adaptations Coming to Disney+
Meanwhile, Disney+ has several live-action adaptations of classic titles lined up, including “Casper” and “Tinker Bell.”
In April, Deadline reported that the streamer has landed a new series take on “Casper the Friendly Ghost.” The live-action project reportedly comes from executive producers Rob Letterman and Hilary Winston, as well as Steven Spielberg and UCP.
While details about the new “Casper” remain under wraps, the series is believed to have a darker edge, similar to “Wednesday.”
Disney+ is also said to be developing a new version of “Tink,” a project about the iconic character Tinker Bell. Variety reported that “Tink” is considered a “high priority project” at Disney+ with Liz Heldens and Bridget Carpenter as executive producers.
