What Fans Can Look Forward To In The ‘Hannah Montana’ 20th Anniversary Special

Nearly two decades after the Disney Channel series first premiered, a Hannah Montana 20th anniversary special is set to stream on Disney+, bringing Miley Cyrus back into the spotlight — and back to Malibu.

The one-hour special premieres March 24 and will feature Cyrus revisiting iconic locations from the show, reconnecting with familiar faces and performing some of the series’ most memorable songs.

Miley Cyrus Talks Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special Details

In a recent interview with Variety, Cyrus shared her excitement about reprising the role and said she intentionally avoided reimagining the character in a modern way.

“I didn’t want to do this modern approach to Hannah. I wanted to keep it preserved,” she said, adding that returning to the role “felt like home again.”

The pop star also revealed that music plays a major role in the anniversary event, with Cyrus stepping back into the Hannah Montana persona for a live-style performance.

Filmed in front of a small audience, the set recreates the look and feel of the show’s original opening sequence. Cyrus performs fan-favorite tracks including “The Best of Both Worlds,” “The Climb” and “This Is the Life.”

In addition to the nostalgic hits, the special will feature a brand-new original song from Cyrus, giving longtime fans something fresh alongside the throwback moments.

Who will star in the Hannah Montana 20th anniversary special?

According to Variety, the special includes several notable appearances, starting with former Disney Channel star Selena Gomez.

Podcast host Alex Cooper is also featured, interviewing Cyrus throughout the special.

As for members of the original cast, Cyrus will reunite on screen with her father, Billy Ray Cyrus, who played Robby Ray Stewart on the original series.

Her mother, Tish Cyrus, also appears, joining Cyrus for a more personal conversation as they revisit elements of the show’s original set design.

While other cast members such as Emily Osment and Jason Earles have acknowledged the anniversary publicly, it remains unclear whether they will appear in the special. There has also been no confirmation regarding potential cameos from former guest stars like the Jonas Brothers or Dolly Parton.

What can fans expect from the Hannah Montana revival?

Beyond the performances and guest appearances, the special will lean heavily into nostalgia.

According to Yahoo Entertainment, Disney recreated the Stewart family home, including the kitchen, living room and the show’s signature hidden closet. Archival items like costumes, fan letters and memorabilia are also featured, offering a behind-the-scenes look at the show’s cultural impact.

The special opens with a reflective moment, as Cyrus is seen driving along the Pacific Coast Highway before arriving at the set — a sequence she said carried unexpected emotional weight.

“I didn’t think about the correlation between Hannah’s house in Malibu and my house in Malibu,” she said, referencing personal changes in her own life since the series ended.

Fans can also expect subtle nods to classic Hannah Montana elements, including the iconic hair flip, Disney Channel wand IDs and the show’s recognizable transition music.
