Cameron Mathison & His Estranged Wife Take Positive Step Forward

A fan favorite actor and his estranged wife have taken a step forward in formalizing their split. Cameron Mathison and Vanessa Mathison announced their breakup in July 2024. Now, according to TMZ on May 7, the pair has made a significant legal move that signals unity amid their separation.

Mathison is beloved by fans for his work in projects such as Great American Family’s “Home Sweet Christmas,” Hallmark’s “Hannah Swensen Mysteries,” and ABC’s “General Hospital.”

Although the couple announced their split via a statement on Instagram in July 2024, little beyond that legally seemed to have taken place until now. TMZ indicates that earlier this week, the two filed for legal separation.

The media outlet indicates that the petition was filed jointly. TMZ shared that the decision to file jointly likely signals that the two are in agreement on issues such as property division and support.

In addition, TMZ noted, the filing is for a legal separation, not a divorce, for now.

The actor and his estranged wife wed in July 2022 and raised two children together. Their son Lucas is 24, and their daughter Leila is 19.

The Pair Has Grown Close Again As They Work to Heal

Just months after announcing their split, the Mathisons faced major heartbreak. The home they had shared, where they raised their kids, was destroyed in the Eaton wildfire.

At the time of the fire, Cameron Mathison was living in the house. Vanessa Mathison was living in a nearby apartment. Naturally, the loss hit the entire family hard. In the months that followed, the estranged duo pulled together to support one another and their kids through it all.

In September 2025, Mathison joined Jennie Garth for an episode of her “I Choose Me” podcast. During that visit, he admitted the split “was a surprise to me.”

Although the Mathisons publicly announced their split in July 2024, he noted during his appearance on Garth’s podcast that they had quietly separated about a year before that.

Mathison shared, “We just have a lot of love for each other, but there was also a lot of pain at that time.”

The loss of their family home served to erase “a lot of the negativity” the two had felt with the split. “We kind of got to this real place of love and care and support, and we’re there for each other and cried and talked and hugged,” he recalled.

The two grew “really close” to one another after the fire. Mathison added, however, that their renewed closeness was not in a way that would have led to a romantic reunion.

Mathison recently told Us Weekly he has been dating again. He tried some dating apps, and admitted he was “trying to distract [myself] from a broken heart.”

He did meet “one in particular that became, like, a more committed sort of situation.” However, Mathison added, it “was a bit much for me.”

The actor explained that he realized he still needed “time to heal and do my thing.”

  1. It’s not over u til it’s over. I’m still rooting (and praying) that they will find their way back to each other. The way they have looked at each other in the past you just know that the love is still there they just need to find it again 🥰
