When Hallmark Channel premieres the third movie in its hugely popular “Three Wise Men” trilogy this holiday season, most of the attention will be focused on its three beloved male leads — Tyler Hynes, Andrew Walker, and Paul Campbell.
But their female counterparts deserve some accolades, too, for the ways they’re showing up, both onscreen and off. Within weeks of filming “The Wisest Men” movie in August 2025, co-stars Ali Liebert and Erin Karpluk have both opened up about their personal journeys with sobriety.
In July, before filming began, Liebert marked 18 years sober with a touching post about her journey. Meanwhile, on September 7, Karpluk celebrated six years of sobriety, calling quitting alcohol the “best decision I ever made.”
Hallmark Channel’s Erin Karpluk Says She Couldn’t Have Navigated the Last Year of Her Life While Still Drinking
Karpluk, who played Tyler Hynes’ love interest in 2024’s “Three Wiser Men and a Boy,” reprises her role in the “Three Wisest Men” movie, premiering during Hallmark’s 16th annual Countdown to Christmas.
On September 7, Karpluk posted a video of her dancing on a lakeside dock and wrote, “6 Year Booze Free 🤸🏼♂️ I say it every year … best decision I have ever made 🪽”
The actress also took to her Instagram Stories to explain a bit more about why “breaking up with alcohol” has been such a game-changer in her life, noting that she rarely thinks about her sobriety now unless someone asks or she hits a milestone.
The past year was especially challenging, she told fans, from losing her dad to helping friends and family after wildfires “devastated” her hometown of Jasper in Alberta, Canada.
“I know that I could not have gone through these big grieving periods of life had I been escaping or numbing out with alcohol,” Karpluk said in her Instagram Stories. “That’s my journey. I always like to share that with people. If it resonates with you, break up with that shizz!”
Erin Karpluk Hopes to Inspire People to Examine Their ‘Relationship With Alcohol’
HallmarkIn a follow-up Story, Karpluk added, “I don’t mean to sound preachy about it because … this is just my experience. There’s so many people in my life that still drink. You do you, I always say. I just encourage people when they come and ask me about it, I’m just like, ‘Examine your own relationship with alcohol — what’s the good, what’s the bad it brings to your life.”
“Ultimately,” Karpluk continued, “it’s up to you to empower yourself to see where it fits.”
In a third Instagram Story about her sober journey, Karpluk said, “All of my fears about, you know, ‘Will I be able to have a relationship? Will I still be able to act? Will I still be able to go out at night to functions? Will I still be able to date? Will I still be able to have Christmas dinner? My experience is I show up for all of those things 300 million times better because I’m my authentic self there, not a different version of myself.”
Karpluk, whose credits also include Hallmark Channel’s “Fixer Upper Mysteries” and Lifetime’s 2025 drama “Do Exactly As I Say,” concluded, “If you do have that fear of like, ‘Oh god, I have to give it up,” thank God! Because it gets better. That’s my experience.”
Hallmark Channel Actress & Director Ali Liebert Has Also Shared Highlights of Her Sober Journey
HallmarkLiebert, meanwhile, played Hynes’ girlfriend in the first movie, “Three Wise Men and a Baby,” and was seen in behind-the-scenes footage from the third movie (love triangle, perhaps?).
She celebrated 18 years of sobriety on July 15, writing in her Instagram Stories, “18 years sober today … Incredibly grateful for it all.”
Liebert, who directed 2025’s hit movie “Love of the Irish,” also marked the milestone the year before, posting several photos from a sandy beach.
“Took a dip in the ocean last night and as the sun was setting, felt overwhelming grateful for all of the beautiful people and experiences in my life,” she captioned the post. “A couple was getting married on the beach and we all cheered and clapped. A group of friends screamed and laughed pushing each other further into the chilly water. A man and his dog took many, many sunset selfies.”
Liebert concluded, “Ah life. It’s the little moments. Celebrating 17 years clean & sober today. What a miracle. What a gift.”
