If you’re an avid viewer of Hallmark movies, then there’s a good chance that you’ve seen Rachael Leigh Cook in “Rescuing Christmas” (2023), “Sisterhood, Inc.” (2025) and “Caught by Love” (2026), just to name a few of her popular projects.
At the same time, those who like to check out beloved teen flicks have surely watched the actress in 1999’s “She’s All That” (1999) and “Josie and the Pussycats” (2001).
Now, you can enjoy her in a new rom-com called “There She Goes,” which happens to take inspiration from the star’s own life.
‘There She Goes’ Might Be Your New Favorite Rom-Com
“For fans of 1990s romantic comedies, there’s no way to think of this golden era of movies without picturing actress Rachael Leigh Cook, who was arguably the queen of this genre,” according to Parade. “Luckily for fans of Cook, she is officially back to the genre that made her a star with her latest project, a rom-com movie called There She Goes…”
“To make the big return even more special and fitting, Cook plays a woman named Molly who left her high school sweetheart to become a super successful ’90s rom-com star. Her ex-boyfriend is played by [American actor and rapper] Utkarsh Ambudkar,” Parade explains. “As Molly tries to move on after fame and settle for a marriage with a tech mogul played by Ryan Hansen, her ex-boyfriend gets one last chance to win her back before she ties the knot.”
The story definitely sounds adorable, and Parade notes that “people are already in love with” the movie. Indeed, the flick that premiered on May 28 immediately earned plenty of fans. When Utkarsh shared a post about the movie on Instagram, it sparked responses from those who adored the story.
One fan left a comment, writing, “I watched it and loved it. Another fabulous movie, as always @rachaelleighcook.”
“This was an absolute DELIGHT!! … Y’all crushed! ❤️❤️❤️ ,” another person added.
A third social media user left a message, pointing out that together, Rachael and Utkarsh are an “awesome duo.”
The Story Is ‘Loosely Based’ on Rachael’s Real Life
Rachael first shared news about “There She Goes” on June 7, 2024, popping up an Instagram post, and writing, “✨my dear friend and talent crush @utktheinc and I started developing this movie w/ @charlesh00d & @sgoldsmi during Covid while conspiring on how to have jobs and also hang out more. What an incredible group of people came into our lives as a result.”
“Thank you thank you THANK YOU to the team at Mar Vista who believed from the beginning, @hiryanhansen you could be a gaffer the way you light up everything. @goldenstate77 @kevinmmann The all-star crew who were with us in upstate, and the unbelievable cast not mentioned here,” she continued. “I feel so lucky to have worked with you all. More to follow :)”
Although you’re interest in the new film is surely already piqued, Deadline reported in 2014 that “There She Goes, a feature film loosely based on Rachael Leigh Cook’s real-life experiences as a ‘90s star…”
“She’s All That star Cook will star in the movie, which comes from Fox Entertainment Studios, alongside Ghosts star Utkarsh Ambudkar and Party Down’s Ryan Hansen,” Deadline added. “Lea DeLaria (Orange Is The New Black), Becky Ann Baker (Girls), Mark Linn-Baker (Succession), Sakina Jaffrey (Billions), and Alok Tewari (The Good Fight) also star.”
