Over the years, we have seen designers, contractors, and real estate pros become household names thanks to HGTV. While these awesome home makeovers draw the attention of these viewers, it’s often the hosts of these shows that keep the fans coming back.
Some of the best HGTV hosts combine expertise, charm, and a talent for storytelling. This helps make every big reveal on their shows exciting. We did our research and came up with some of the best HGTV hosts of all time based not only on how they captivate the attention of the fans, but also on their influence on the network.
1. Chip & Joanna Gaines
If any of these hosts helped reshape HGTV, it has to be Chip and Joanna Gaines. As the stars of “Fixer Upper,” the husband-and-wife duo helped spark a massive home design trend centered around modern farmhouse style.
Chip brings the playful humor that balances perfectly with Joanna’s eye for design. They are a relatable couple, which is why fans enjoy watching them. Their success extended way beyond television, also. They launched a lifestyle empire, helping their hometown of Waco, Texas, become a major tourist destination.
2. Drew Scott & Jonathan Scott
They’re twins, so they stand out anyway. However, the Scott brothers have made a name for themselves on HGTV thanks to “Property Brothers.” Now, Drew and Jonathan Scott are household names for many people.
We have Drew, who is the real estate expert, and Jonathan, who has the renovation skills. When you put them together, you have the perfect combination to help families not only find their dream home, but transform it.
The brothers have easygoing banter, along with approachable personalities. Those things have helped the franchise grow from one show into multiple spinoffs for HGTV. The twin brothers have been a staple for the network and its programming for over a decade.
3. Keith Bynum & Evan Thomas
Is it possible to include hosts that have just been on one show that the network eventually cancelled? Yes, yes, it is when those hosts are Keith Bynum and Evan Thomas!
This duo brought fresh creative energy to HGTV with their show “Bargain Block.” The pair renovated homes in Detroit, transforming neglected properties into colorful, design-forward spaces.
Keith and Evan were willing to take risks with bold designs, all while keeping homes accessible to everyday buyers. Their artistic flair, humor, and focus on community revitalization quickly made them fan favorites on the network. Those same fans have been demanding their return after the cancellation of “Bargain Blocks” in 2025.
4. Dave & Jenny Marrs
I feel like Chip & Joanna Gaines paved the path for other couples, like Dave and Jenny Marrs, to shine on HGTV. This couple captured viewers’ hearts on “Fixer to Fabulous,” where they restore historic homes and transform properties across Northwest Arkansas.
Like the Gaineses, Dave brings the construction expertise that combines perfectly with Jenny’s warm design sensibility. It just creates the perfect balance on screen.
Beyond just the renovation, Jenny and Dave have a genuine connection with homeowners and a commitment to preserving community history in Arkansas. All of that has helped make their show one of the most beloved modern series on HGTV.
5. David Bromstad
David Bromstad has been one of HGTV’s most vibrant personalities for years. Bromstad won season 1 of “HGTV Design Star” in 2006, and has gone on to show that they picked the correct winner. He has hosted multiple shows on the network, including “Color Splash,” “Beach Flip,” and the very popular “My Lottery Dream Home.”
Bromstad has an energetic style and playful humor, which pair with his bold design choices. This helps to make him one of the network’s most entertaining hosts. He can celebrate big wins alongside lottery winners, which has helped turn that show into a fan favorite.
Who would you put on this HGTV best host list?

The only one I agree is #3! That show should not have been cancelled.
Ben & Erin are my favorites, hands down. She knows how to use color, and her designs are comfy. The best, for me
Number 5 is a joke. This guy is ridiculous, his clothes worse. This cannot be a real survey.
TOTALLY AGREE
Dave and Jenny all the way
SOOOOOOO tired of Chip & Joanna; also Drew & Jonathan. You can’t go a day without too many of their shows. I don’t feel the Scott brothers have any emotional connection to their clients, the same with Chip & Joanne. Money, money is all I think of with their shows. Their prices are way overboard.Stopped watching all their shows.
WELL CHANGE STATION I HAPEN TO LOVE BOTH OF THEM
I disagree with #1. Joanna comes off as very snobby. LOVE Dave & Jenny, but what about Ben & Erin?? They’re #1 in my book.
How could Bargain Block not be renewed??????? It provided hope for so many people with little wealth & feeling invisible!
I liked Jonathan Knight with his historic saving of American farmhouses. He truly believed in them and lived in them. I also like Jasmine Roth, but when she was in California. She and her contractor really cared about what they were doing.
I cancelled my cable subscription to HGTV when they got rid of the shows I watched.
Love Keith and Evan!!
The greatest, miss Bargain Block terribly.
Best of luck to them in the future!!!
