Britney Spears stunned and thrilled her fans by appearing to debut a new hairstyle in a June 1 social media post. The post, shared by celebrity hair stylist Chris Appleton, showed Spears rocking a smooth, straight honey blonde style she hasn’t worn in years.
Appleton expressed in the caption of the post, which racked up over 100k likes in a few hours, that working with Britney was a dream come true, and recalled Britney’s music being “the soundtrack to so many moments” during his childhood in England.
“Never in a million years did I think I’d one day be standing behind the chair (or in this case her standing behind mine, lol) styling her hair.”
He added, “Some moments really do come full circle,” before calling the 44-year-old “not only an icon, but one of the most genuinely kind and gentle souls I’ve ever met.”
Britney Spears’ New Straight Hair by Chris Appleton Resembles Her Past Looks
GettyThe smooth, straight style Appleton created closely resembles the way Britney’s hair looked during several moments from her past, such as her 2003 London appearance to promote the “Pepsi Gladiators” commercial in which she appeared with Beyoncé and Pink.
GettyThe pop princess wore a similar style, this time with a braided accent, to promote the drink in a 90-second spot where she dressed in looks from various decades.
Fans React to Britney Spears’ New Hair
Fans are excited about Britney’s new look, and made it known in Appleton’s IG comments. One wrote, “I almost fainted,” before leaving a bunch of fire emojis to show his admiration.
Another declared, “She looks stunning.”
While fans are in agreement that Britney looks great, some are concerned about Appleton’s ties to Kim Kardashian. That’s because of Kim’s long history of business and social ties to Lou Taylor, Britney’s former business manager whom she complained about in her 2023 memoir “The Woman in Me.”
Kris Jenner shared a photo posing with Taylor at her 70th birthday party in November 2025 just a few days before Kim and Khloe Kardashian shared selfies from a “sleepover” with Britney that many fans found unnerving.
One commenter emphatically told Kim to get out of Britney’s life after the reality star left 3 heart emojis on the photo, and another complained to Kim, “Yet you continue to do business with Lou Taylor, the woman Britney names in her book for almost taking everything she’s ever had.”
Taylor formed a friendship with Britney’s father Jamie Spears after working as a manger for Britney’s little sister starting in 2004, per Buzzfeed News.
The L.A. Times reported in 2022 that Matthew Rosengart, the attorney Britney was finally able to hire after being barred by judge Reva Goetz from doing in 2008, stated in a filing that Taylor was directly involved in the creation of Britney’s controversial 13-year conservatorship, a claim which Taylor has denied.
After the conservatorship was established, Taylor went on to be hired by Jamie as Britney’s business manager, a position she held from 2008 to 2020. Taylor’s company, Tri Star, obtained over $18 million dollars from Britney’s estate.
Additional concerns surrounding Appleton’s new post were raised by people who questioned the photo’s authenticity, or suggested it was old and/or edited. Appleton’s fellow stylist, Miami-based Jany M Carrasco, wrote, “Can’t wait to see what you do on her hair,” appearing to quietly suggest she does not believe the picture actually depicts a recent makeover.
Someone else weighed in, “You should have picked a better photo. Looks grainy. Something is fishy about this,” while another pointed out the discrepancy between the low-quality snap and the crisp sharpness of Appleton’s typical posts.
The outpouring of reactions proves one thing: that Britney’s army of fans is as dedicated as ever.
