Jessie J Returns to Stage With Brave First Performance After Cancer Surgery: VIDEO

With emotion in her voice, Jessie J told fans she felt “so grateful” and “like a little kid” as she took the stage for the first time since breast cancer surgery. The 37-year-old singer, born Jessica Cornish, opened her BBC Radio 2 in the Park set in Chelmsford on September 7 with a powerful rendition of “Domino.”

“This is the biggest acoustic show I’ve ever done,” Jessie told the audience, as per Metro UK. “Eleven weeks ago, I had surgery, and at the last show I played, I didn’t know what was coming next. I’m still recovering, but I’m just so thankful to be here.”

An Emotional Night With Family in the Crowd

The concert held special meaning as Jessie’s two-year-old son, Sky Safir Cornish Colman, watched her perform live for the first time. Sky later joined his mom on stage, waving to fans before singing “Happy Birthday” with her. The moment drew cheers from the crowd, with Jessie joking that the audience felt “like family at a barbecue.”

Jessie J went on to thank the audience for their support. “I’m just so grateful to be here. You have no idea how grateful I am to see so many of you singing along after all these years. It truly feels like I’m a little kid still doing what I love,” she told the crowd, according to the Mirror.

The BRIT Award winner shared that the show was special because her 2-year-old son, Sky, was in the audience watching her perform live for the very first time.

“Another special thing that’s happening today is that my son is seeing me sing on stage for the first time,” she said, before sweetly adding, “Hi Sky. Hi my baby. Love you.”

She then introduced her single “Living My Best Life,” which she released in May.

Jessie welcomed Sky in 2023 with her partner, basketball player Chanan Colman, after experiencing a miscarriage in 2021.

Music as Healing Through Life’s Challenges

Before singing her new single “Living My Best Life,” Jessie reflected on receiving her diagnosis just two weeks before the track’s release. “People said we should stop everything, put things on hold. But that’s not life. Life is standing in the storm, putting up your umbrella, and moving forward. For me, music is a healer.”

She added, “This song is called ‘Living My Best Life’ — and that’s what I’m doing every day. None of us know when our last day will be, so hug the people you love hard and make the most of every moment.”

Postponed Tour & Resilient Spirit

Jessie has postponed her UK and European tour dates until April 2026 and canceled the U.S. leg. Despite her health struggles, including a childhood heart condition, a stroke at 18, and temporary hearing loss in 2020, she remains one of Britain’s most successful pop stars.

With three UK number-one singles, “Domino,” “Price Tag,” and “Bang Bang”, and awards including a Brit Rising Star honor and four Mobo Awards, Jessie continues to inspire fans with both her voice and resilience.
