Sterban spoke directly to fans in his statement, offering gratitude for their support. “I want to thank everyone, especially the fans, for your concern, and I would appreciate your continued prayers,” he said. “Most days I’m feeling very good, and I hope to be back out on the road in several months.”

The Oak Ridge Boys reinforced their message on their official Facebook page, sharing recent photos along with their request for prayers. The post quickly filled with thousands of heartfelt comments. “Praying you have a speedy recovery. Trust in God as he will bring you through this,” one fan wrote. Another added, “Prayers and love sent to Richard. You are the best and we wish the best for you.”

A Career Built on Legendary Music

Sterban’s path to country music legend started well before he joined The Oak Ridge Boys in 1972. He previously sang backup for Elvis Presley, but ultimately left to follow his dream with The Oaks. “I really believed I was doing the right thing. And I think time has proven that I made a pretty good decision,” he said in a 2019 interview.

With the group, Sterban helped define a sound that became a cornerstone of both country and gospel music. The Oaks scored major hits with songs like “Bobbie Sue,” “American Made,” and their double-platinum crossover smash “Elvira.” Their legacy was cemented with inductions into the Grand Ole Opry in 2011 and the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2015.

The Oaks Continue Touring as Sterban Heals

While Sterban focuses on his health, The Oak Ridge Boys’ American Made: Farewell Tour continues. Fellow singers Aaron McCune and Tim Duncan are stepping in to help carry the group’s trademark harmonies.

The tour is booked into 2026, and fans remain hopeful that Sterban will rejoin his bandmates. For now, they are united in prayer for the beloved bass singer’s recovery.
