’90s rock band The Cranberries are back in the spotlight after experiencing a recent surge in popularity.
On November 7, the Irish rock band released their 1994 “MTV Unplugged” concert as an album for the first time, which already placed at No. 8 on the Billboard Vinyl chart.
The Cranberries were also honored with the Rolling Stone UK Icon Award last week, further cementing their legacy in the music industry.
On Wednesday, November 26, the band took to Instagram to reflect on their latest milestones.
“It’s been a moving week… We’re overwhelmed that our 1994 ‘MTV Unplugged’ session, released for the first time, has reached #8 on the Billboard Vinyl Chart,” the band wrote. “To then be honored with the Rolling Stone UK Icon Award truly shows how far our music has traveled from its beginnings.”
The Cranberries Honor Late Vocalist Dolores O’Riordan
The band went on to honor Dolores O’Riordan, who sadly passed away in 2018. The Cranberries also thanked their fans for their unwavering support through the years.
“The living legacy of our music was on full display as Noel was joined by Royel Otis to perform ‘Linger’ – a song that has recently resonated with so many new listeners,” they added. “From our studio sessions in the 90s to the way you now find and create anew with these songs, it’s your connection that gives this music its lasting purpose. We have no doubt Dolores would be smiling down on it all.”
On January 15, 2018, O’Riordan was found lifeless in a bathtub at London’s Park Lane Hilton hotel, per BBC News. It was later confirmed that the singer died from drowning due to alcohol intoxication. She was 46.
