The Mavericks, a country music group that first became popular in the ’80s, sadly announced that they have to postpone some dates on their upcoming tour.
Frontman Raul Malo underwent surgery at the beginning of August after being diagnosed with stage four cancer, Parade reports.
“While we had hoped to resume our tour next weekend after the summer break, unfortunately we will have to cancel the upcoming performances in Las Vegas on Sept 4 & Santa Fe on Sept 6 as Raul continues to rest and recover at home from surgery earlier this month. At this time, we do anticipate the shows supporting Dwight Yoakam, Sept 11-13 to continue as planned,” The Mavericks wrote in a statement on Instagram. “We will be returning to Big Blues Bender in 2026, but unfortunately we are not able to reschedule our show in Santa Fe at this time. Refunds for the Santa Fe show will be available at the point of purchase.”
“We apologize sincerely for any inconvenience this may cause, and appreciate everyone’s continued understanding this year. We look forward to bringing you the show you know and love as soon as we possibly can,” they concluded.

Raul Malo Provided Fans With An Update About His Cancer Battle in March
Earlier this year, Malo gave fans a promising update about his cancer battle.
“Received some great news this week and I wanted to share,” he wrote on March 13. “My doctors are thrilled with my progress so far, hernia and all. All my scans so far have come back clear including the PET scan from last week. All my vital signs are excellent as well. We’ll know the next steps in the next week or so. Doctors will review all the scans and data and they’ll determine the next steps.
“Chances are they will go something like this…at least one more round of chemo bringing the total number to twelve. Then take a break (from chemo for at least four weeks) Schedule the colon and hernia surgery. Then a few more scans and more than likely they’ll schedule a couple more rounds of chemo to ensure that nothing comes back,” he continued. “Needless to say we’re really encouraged by the findings this week.
