After confirming the third “Grown Ups” installment in May, Adam Sandler has officially shared the first look at the upcoming comedy.
In an Instagram post from Thursday, August 6, Sandler shared photos during a dinner scene, featuring a star-studded cast, including Salma Hayek, Jackie Sandler, Rob Schneider, David Spade, Maya Rudolph, Kevin James, Chris Rock, and Maria Bello.
“We missed you!” Sandler captioned his post.
Sandler, who co-wrote the first two franchise films, collaborated with Tim Herlihy to write the third screenplay, Variety reported. Producers include Sandler and wife, Jack Giarraputo, and Tim Herlihy, with executive producers Fred Wolf, Jackie Shenoo, Kevin Grady, Judit Maull, Aidan Elliot, and Kristen Ploucha. “Happy Gilmore 2” director Kyle Newacheck will act as film director.
First Look at ‘Grown Ups 3’
Netflix’s “Grown Ups 3” is being produced in partnership with Sony Pictures. The film began production in New Jersey in August.
While the first two franchise films featured the story of five childhood friends whose kids grew up to become just as close, “Grown Ups 3” will focus on Sandler’s character Lenny, and his four pals Eric, Marcus, Kurt, and Rob as they embark on a once-in-a-lifetime adventure.
“Now that their kids are all grown up, the gang is finally free to go on the ultimate adventure,” the film’s logline states, shared by Netflix.
Although the Feder, Lamonsoff, McKenzie, and Hilliard children are all grown up 13 years after their neighborhood party in “Grown Ups 2,” the actors who play the starring “kids’” roles will be returning for the sequel film, including Jake Goldberg, Alexys Nycole Sanchez, Sadie Sandler, Sunny Sandler, Ada-Nicole Sanger, Morgan Gingerich, Kaleo Elam, Nadji Jeter, David Mattle, and Kamil McFadden, Netflix reported.

New stars to join the cast include Julie Bowen, best known for her Emmy-winning run on “Modern Family.” Bowen also starred in “Happy Gilmore” (1996). Comedian Deon Cole, known for his work in “Black-ish,” will also be joining the lineup, as well as Bailee Madison, who starred opposite Sandler as his make-believe daughter in “Just Go With It” (2011).
In a previous interview with Independent, Sandler explained his thought process behind his many cult classic comedies. “Here’s how I think of my scripts … I sit in my room and think up an idea. Then I call up all my friends, and they say, ‘That’s awesome! You are the best.’ No, what really happens is that a group of us come up with an idea and work on it. We just riff around, make jokes, try and make each other laugh.”
As for the idea behind “Grown Ups,” Sandler told Independent, “It’s the idea of real-life comedy that I love. You know, we stretch what goes on in real life, what’s actually happening with your friends. The first Grown Ups was about family and friendship. That is what I like talking about a lot. The first shoot we did three years ago? That was one of the best summers of my life. It was one of the best summers of all our lives, just hanging out with our families. I guess we all wanted to relive that again.”
