Netflix Quietly Confirms End of Beloved Television Series

Streaming behemoth Netflix has confirmed that a much-loved sci-fi series has come to an end and there will be no further seasons. Based on Haro Aso’s manga franchise of the same name, “Alice in Borderland” is a live-action adaptation that recently concluded its third season on Netflix and fans will no doubt be disappointed to discover that there will be no further entries.

Netflix Reveals No Plans for Further ‘Alice in Borderland’ Seasons

Somewhat similar to “Squid Game” and other battle royale-type series,  “Alice in Borderland” sees players being transported to an alternate version of Tokyo where they are forced to compete in life-or-death games against other players to avoid being executed.

The first season premiered on December 10, 2020 and quickly became a success in many territories, attracting positive reviews and higher viewership. Meanwhile the third and final season dropped on Netflix in September of 2025. Although it was marketed in many areas as the conclusion to the story, a tease at the end suggested some sort of spin-off or further seasons.

This now appears to not be the case, with Netflix recently calling the latest installment the “third and final season” of the show in its What We Watched the Second Half of 2025. The same article also confirmed that the third season had a total of 25 million views, putting it ahead of the first season of “Last Samurai Standing.”

Netflix Canceled Dozens of Shows in 2025

The fact that “Alice in Borderland” has come to an end may not be entirely surprising for those who are familiar with the original manga series. The television adaptation had effectively used up all of the source material in its three seasons, meaning that any future releases would have had to be original works.

Yet, this is not the only show that Netflix has canceled. Over the course of the last year, the streaming giant has brought to an end more than 20 original series. In many cases, they were abruptly canceled with no prior warning, leaving fans without a conclusion to the story.

Netflix has developed a habit of bringing shows to a close without little or no explanation. The full list of series that won’t be returning in the future can be seen below and include original series, 10 reality shows, and a handful of sports documentary series.
