Daisy Ridley’s anticipated return to the “Star Wars” universe may finally be showing signs of movement after years of uncertainty.
The actress is set to reprise her role as Rey in a new movie. It will reportedly explore the character’s efforts to rebuild the Jedi Order following the events of “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.” However, since Lucasfilm first announced it in 2023, the project has suffered numerous behind-the-scenes changes.
Now, a new industry production listing has given fans another reason to believe Rey’s next adventure may be coming after all. The same update also contains potentially encouraging news about Dave Filoni’s long-planned “Star Wars” movie.
Daisy Ridley’s ‘Star Wars’ Movie Resurfaces In Production Listings
Ridley’s still-untitled “Star Wars” movie has resurfaced in industry production tracking, to the joy of many fans. This comes after a long period without many concrete updates.
According to the latest edition of Production Weekly, the movie commonly referred to as “New Jedi Order” is listed among potentially upcoming projects. The update, however, does not mean the cameras are about to start rolling.
Neither Disney nor Lucasfilm has announced a production date, release window, or formal start for filming. However, the new listing indicates that the project is still moving forward behind the scenes.
Lucasfilm originally announced Ridley’s return during Star Wars Celebration Europe back in April 2023. The movie director was revealed as two-time Academy Award winner Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy. Ridley also made a surprise appearance at the event to confirm her character’s comeback.
The story is set approximately 15 years after “The Rise of Skywalker.”
The Rey Movie Has Already Gone Through Several Writers
One reason for the attention the latest development is attracting is the long period of uncertainty surrounding the project. It has undergone several changes on the writing side since its announcement back in 2023.
An earlier version had Damon Lindelof and Justin Britt-Gibson involved, but they ultimately left the project. “Peaky Blinders” creator Steven Knight subsequently worked on another draft.
Then, in January 2025, “The Bourne Ultimatum” writer George Nolfi became the latest screenwriter attached to the movie. This version is expected to retain the central premise of an older Rey attempting to establish a new generation of Jedi.
Lucasfilm’s original description positioned Ridley’s movie as the franchise’s opportunity to move beyond the Skywalker Saga. At Star Wars Celebration, the studio described the story as being centered on rebuilding the Jedi Order and confronting forces that would see that effort fail.
Throughout the changes, Ridley has remained attached. Her character “Rey” was first introduced in 2015’s “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.” She later returned for “The Last Jedi” and “The Rise of Skywalker.”
Dave Filoni’s Long-Planned ‘Star Wars’ Movie Has Resurfaced Too
GettyRidley’s movie isn’t the only long-awaited “Star Wars” project included in the latest production tracking. Dave Filoni’s untitled feature has also resurfaced.
Lucasfilm first announced Filoni’s movie alongside Obaid-Chinoy’s Rey project at Star Wars Celebration in 2023. James Mangold’s planned film about the dawn of the Jedi was also announced.
Unlike Ridley’s post “Rise of Skywalker” story, Filoni’s film is expected to focus on the New Republic era. It was previously announced that the movie would bring together storylines established across its interconnected Disney+ shows. This includes “The Mandalorian,” “The Book of Boba Fett,” “Ahsoka,” and other related projects.
When the project was announced, Filoni teased the scope of his plans. “We’re drawing on a lot of things…and bringing them all together,” he said.
Beyond those still in the development pipeline, Lucasfilm already has another theatrical project much farther along. Shawn Levy’s “Star Wars: Starfighter,” starring Ryan Gosling, is scheduled to reach theaters on May 28, 2027. It takes place five years after “The Rise of Skywalker” and follows a new character.
