Kristen Bell‘s anniversary post went viral last October. Her husband Dax Shepard had absolutely no idea.
The “Nobody Wants This” Netflix star posted a photo of herself and Dax sharing a close embrace to celebrate their 12th wedding anniversary. She captioned it with a darkly funny quote her husband once delivered after watching an episode of Dateline. “I would never kill you,” Dax had apparently told her. “A lot of men have killed their wives at a certain point. Even though I’m heavily incentivized to kill you, I never would.”
The post made many fans laugh. Others were not as amused. Either way the internet had plenty to say and Dax was the last to know.
Dax Shepard Had Absolutely No Clue
On the April 6 episode of his Armchair Expert podcast, Dax Shepard finally addressed the moment. E! News reports he told listeners he was completely in the dark when it happened.
“I was alerted by someone that this whole thing was happening,” he said. “I didn’t know, and Kristen knew through her publicist but didn’t tell me. So I actually didn’t know, and this was brought to my attention.”
A full week and a half passed before anyone filled him in. Someone reached out to comfort him and he had no idea what they were talking about.
“I had no clue,” Dax continued. “Someone comforted me, and I was like, ‘What are you talking about?’ And then I had to go to Kristen, like, ‘What are they talking about?’ She’s like, ‘Oh, that post I had.'”
Kristen never addressed the post directly. In February she told People exactly how she feels about her husband of 13 years.
“There’s nothing that he won’t do to take care of me,” she said. “One thing that I love so much about being married to him is that he is never allergic to me shining more and more. He never gets insecure about it.”

GettyThe couple met at a friend’s birthday dinner in 2007. Dax recalled thinking “Who is this sparkly creature?” Two weeks later they ran into each other at a hockey game and started dating from there.
Kristen once described them to Good Housekeeping as “the Paula Abdul video Opposites Attract personified.” They got engaged in 2009 while co-starring in “When In Rome.” They married at a Beverly Hills courthouse in 2013, welcoming daughter Lincoln that same year and daughter Delta in December 2014.
The two have been open about attending couples counseling throughout their marriage. “Therapy is not something to be embarrassed about,” Kristen has said publicly.
For Dax’s 50th birthday last year Kristen shared a carousel of photos writing: “Happy birthday to the most affectionate 220 lbs man that ever existed. I cannot imagine life without you.”
