‘America’s Mom’ Jennifer Garner Talks Motherhood and Hollywood for ‘InStyle’

Everyone loves Jennifer Garner, and her interview for “InStyle” magazine’s Summer 2026 digital issue makes her even more endearing. In the interview, the “13 Going on 30” star navigates both motherhood and Hollywood, reflecting on the messy nature of each.

Jennifer Garner Believes There’s ‘No Such Thing as Balance’

“You have to raise yourself at the same time [while raising children]. And just be so radically kind to yourself about how imperfect it is. And that it is just going to be imperfect,” she says. “There’s no such thing as balance. There’s no such thing as doing it right. And when the big moments happen, you are okay, and that’s on you to know and understand so your child feels okayness.”

Garner describes an “upheaval” in her family that forced her to take a long hiatus from acting, but the 54-year-old Texas native expresses gratitude for being both a mindful mother and entertainer. She adds, “When I work, I don’t apologize to my kids for it. I do thank them for being so sweet about it. But that’s part of life. Working hard is part of life, and messing up is part of life. Tripping and falling—there’s room for all of it.”

The ‘Alias’ Star is a Cool Mom in Everyone’s Eyes, But Her Kids’

Garner demonstrates her strong work ethic as she gears up for the release of her latest television projects: “The Five-Star Weekend,” debuting on Peacock this July, and the second season of “The Last Thing He Told Me,” now streaming on Apple TV Plus. She also pursues her Once Upon a Farm business and actively cares for her three children—Violet, Fin, and Samuel—whom she shares with her ex-husband Ben Affleck. Even though she admits her kids find her “fully cringe,” she remains a devoted and supportive mom, always in awe of her children

“They’re just so cool!” she told “Marie Claire UK” in January. “Parenting now has shifted. It’s more about parenting with a button on my mouth… You have to let them grow up and make their own choices. You don’t get to control it. [I’m] so proud of how they walk through the world, and proud of them for trying hard,” she stated. Garner’s eldest daughter, Violet Affleck, has made headlines in recent years for her public health and climate change activism. In 2025, the Yale University student addressed the United Nations with an impassioned speech about clean indoor air and other health concerns.

What’s Next for Jennifer Garner?

Right now, Garner thrives in her acting career, raises her three kids, hosts her YouTube cooking show, and manages much more. However, just as she approaches motherhood and life, the Capital One spokesperson remains realistic about her limitations—even as a beloved action star.

“I can knife fight. I can do a compound bow and arrow. I’ve learned how to do all of this stuff. I want to use it. [But], I’m 54, I’m not going to be able to do it forever,” she candidly admits.
