Carol Burnett Reunited With Vicki Lawrence Earlier This year

Earlier this year, Lawrence joined Burnett for Season 2 of Apple TV’s “Palm Royale.” And with that, Burnett opened up about being with Lawrence and getting to work with her once again.

“Being with Vicki again was like old times,” Burnett told Parade. “I mean, it was as if all the years had not passed, and here we are again together.”

In the interview, Burnett added that she had the idea to mention bringing Lawrence on, but the writer and executive producer Abe Sylvia called the actress and comedian first, asking her what she thought.

Her response: “Of course, I was thinking the same thing.”

“So it was really such fun,” Burnett added. “And when she showed up on the set, you know, it was, as I say, it’s like the years just washed away. And here we were again, you know, Carol and Vicki together.”

In “Palm Royale” Lawrence plays Burnett, which is a role she is quite familiar with as the duo did the same during one of the recurring sketches from “The Carol Burnett Show” titled “The Family.”

“What happened was Abe Sylvia called Vicki and said, ‘Okay, we would like you to be on the show, and you’ll be Carol’s mother.’ And Vicki said, ‘So what else is new?’” Burnett explained. “Here she was playing my mother on my show when we did ‘The Family’ sketches. She was 24 years old when she played mama, when we first cast her.”
