Anthony Geary, who was beloved for his role as Luke Spencer on “General Hospital,” has died. He was 78. The actor passed away on Sunday, December 14. This is the small and loving family he leaves behind.

The entertainment industry is mourning the loss of Geary, who died as the “result of complications from a scheduled operation three days earlier,” TV Insider reports. Tributes have already started pouring in from fans and those who worked with and loved Geary. He is survived by his husband, Claudio Gama, and their beloved cat.
“It was a shock for me and our families and our friends. For more than 30 years, Tony has been my friend, my companion, my husband,” Gama told TV Insider in a statement following Geary’s death. He also shared that their family included their cat, “little Max.” The couple lived in Amsterdam, and Gama occasionally gave a glimpse into their lives through social media posts.
Gama’s final Instagram post was just two days earlier and was a positive one, showing their home with many owl ornaments and their plants draped in Christmas lights. The video also featured their very content cat. In the caption, he wrote, “Greetings and happy Saturday to all from Amsterdam it’s a lovely sunny but chilly day no market today I’m having it delivered sometimes using online delivery is so much easier I already did my housekeeping prep my food for the weekend now it’s quality rest with Max have a warm safe and healthy weekend.”

GettyAmong the tributes for Geary is one from his “General Hospital” family. He was a part of the show from 1978, and his inclusion earned him a slew of awards. In a statement to People on Monday, December 15, executive producer Frank Valentini shared their heartbreak.
“Tony was a brilliant actor and set the bar that we continue to strive for,” Valentini said. “His legacy, and that of Luke Spencer’s, will live on through the generations of GH cast members who have followed in his footsteps. We send our sincerest sympathies to his husband, Claudio, family, and friends. May he rest in peace.”
Geary retired from acting in 2015 and relocated to Amsterdam, where he lived out his final years. “I’m excited to raise the curtain on act 3, to reinvent myself in my new home to pursue whatever opportunity there may be. It’s an exciting prospect to me,” he told Entertainment Weekly in 2015, People reports.
