Mark Consuelos Reveals Life-Changing Experience Without Kelly Ripa

Mark Consuelos is opening up about a new, life-changing experience he’s having without his wife of 29 years, Kelly Ripa, by his side.

In an interview with New York’s Eyewitness News entertainment reporter, Joelle Gargulio, Consuelos discussed his Broadway debut in the Noel Coward comedy, “Fallen Angels.” His work on the Great White Way is proving to be exceptionally exciting; he rates it a “15” out of 10.

Mark Consuelos is ‘really excited’ about returning to Broadway

The former “All My Children” star is no stranger to live performances. He hosts “Live with Kelly and Mark” with his wife, Kelly Ripa, live each day in front of a studio audience. However, this is the first time he has appeared on Broadway.

“I’m really excited about it. I love being in the theater,” Consuelos admitted. “I actually never thought it would be in the cards for me.”

Consuelos continued, “I’ve done theater, I’ve done small theater, off-off-off Broadway theater, I love it.”

“I think it’s magic. I think it’s so quintessentially New York.”

However, despite a desire to perform on the Great White Way, the timing was not in the cards for Consuelos to take on such a demanding role. After leaving “All My Children,” the actor never stopped working, taking roles in “Riverdale,” “Alpha House,” “Kingdom,” and “The Night Shift,” to name a few of the series he has guest-starred or starred in.

But now that his work is central to his New York City home, all the pieces fell into place for yet another first, a Broadway debut. “But now we’re in New York, anchored to the city… my agent said, ‘It’s time. Let’s do a play,’ I thought they were gonna bring me something like a small, edgy downtown show where I could go hide. But no – this is right smack dab in the middle of Broadway.”

What Play is Mark Consuelos Starring In?

Mark Consuelos is starring in “Fallen Angels.” He will play the role of Maurice Duclos, a man who had an affair with two upper-class housewives, played by Consuelos’ co-stars Kelli O’Hara and Rose Byrne, at the Roundabout Theater.

“Fallen Angels,” which first premiered in 1925, centers on the friendship of Julia and Jane. Both are in boring marriages, and together, they reminisce about their old lovers, finding out they both had a romance with the same man, Maurice, played by Consuelos.

Highlands Current reported that when “Fallen Angels” first debuted, it was considered scandalous due to its undertones and innuendos about the friend’s affairs. The website shared, “Back then, a censorship bureau regulated the content of plays. Though urged to ban ‘Fallen Angels,’ the official in charge made some light edits before approving it for public presentation. The first run in 1925 lasted 158 performances, and the work entered the theatrical canon.”

Previews of “Fallen Angels” begin on March 27 at the Todd Haimes Theatre and run through June 7. Mark Consuelos will continue to host “Live With Kelly and Mark” in the mornings.
