Wes Ramsey Ends His Run on “General Hospital”

Anna Devane’s terrifying battle with the hallucination of Peter August finally came to an end this week on “General Hospital”. The storyline also appears to have brought Wes Ramsey’s latest run on the ABC soap to a close, for now.

Peter had been tormenting Anna since her return to Port Charles, appearing as a hallucination and pushing her toward increasingly dangerous behavior. His ultimate demand was that Anna kill Britt Westbourne, convincing her that Britt posed a threat and that eliminating her was the only way to protect Emma. Unfortunately, Anna came dangerously close to following through.

Anna Lures Britt Into a Trap

Anna carefully set the stage for Britt’s murder before luring her to a secluded piece of rural property owned by Sonny. She covered her tracks by telling Sonny that she wanted to look at some of his property as a possible getaway spot, giving her a reason to be there without raising immediate suspicion. But Anna wasn’t planning a peaceful escape.

She prepared the location with everything she thought she would need, including zip ties, a shovel and a tarp. Then she contacted Britt and convinced her to meet her there by claiming that she had information about Cassius. When Britt arrived, Anna ambushed her.

With Peter’s hallucination urging her on, Anna forced Britt to kneel on the tarp and prepared to execute her. At that point, Anna appeared frighteningly close to completely surrendering control to the version of Peter that had taken over her mind. Fortunately, Jason arrived before she could pull the trigger.

Jason Gets Through to Anna

Jason was able to convince Anna that Peter wasn’t really there and that she didn’t have to kill Britt to keep Emma safe. Instead, he urged Anna to recognize that Peter only had power over her if she continued listening to him. Anna realized the way to take back control wasn’t to kill Britt. It was to let her go.

Anna finally turned away from Britt and confronted Peter instead. She raised her gun and fired at the hallucination rather than Britt. With those shots, Peter disappeared.

For Anna, it was a major psychological breakthrough. For Ramsey, it seemingly marked the conclusion of his latest stint as one of “General Hospital”’s most notorious villains.

Gone, But for How Long?

Ramsey returned to” General Hospital” as Peter August in January 2026, marking his first appearance on the soap in four years. Rather than bringing Peter back from the dead, the show found another way to use the character by making him the embodiment of Anna’s trauma and fears.

Peter may be gone from Anna’s mind for now, but that doesn’t necessarily mean Ramsey’s time on General Hospital is permanently over. After all, this is Port Charles.

Anna still has a long road ahead as she recovers from the trauma of her kidnapping and confinement. Peter became tangled up with Anna’s fears surrounding Cesar Faison, her family and her desperate need to protect the people she loves. Those issues aren’t likely to disappear simply because Anna finally rejected Peter’s commands.

There’s also Valentin. Anna has been leaning heavily on Valentin since returning home, and he will likely continue to play an important role in her recovery.

But Valentin is connected to some of the most complicated and painful parts of Anna’s history. As much as he may be her rock now, that relationship could also stir up memories of everything she has endured.

That leaves plenty of opportunities for Peter to reappear through hallucinations, nightmares or flashbacks if the show wants to bring Ramsey back again.

For now, though, Anna has finally defeated the Peter August living inside her head. Whether she has seen him for the last time is another question entirely.

As longtime “General Hospital” fans know, the Faisons have a habit of turning up when they’re least expected. Wes Ramsey’s latest run may be finished, but don’t assume Peter August is gone for good.
