“Survivor” 49 will premiere with a two-hour episode on Wednesday, September 24, at 8 p.m. ET on CBS. It can also be streamed on Paramount+. Ahead of this season, behind-the-scenes information has been revealed about the cast, which includes a rocket scientist and a correctional officer, as well as their approach to gameplay. This is everything fans of the show need to know.
‘Survivor’ 49 Behind-The-Scenes Details
“Survivor” 49 will be filmed in the Mamanuca Islands in Fiji. This is the exact location where the last 15 seasons have been filmed, USA Today reports. The conditions in Fiji can vary, but this season was particularly hot.
Long-time host and executive producer Jeff Probst told Men’s Journal about the harsh weather conditions. “What I noticed about this group out of the gate was that the season was very hot,” he said. in an interview on September 22. “I felt it myself, after challenges I was out of breath. Even with food, water, and shelter, I was struggling. So you can imagine how tough it was for the players. We’ve got to see it because that sells the truth that it’s real. Even me, who’s eating and sleeping and has water and all that, I’m struggling out there.”
Probst teased that viewers will see how contestants “handle the elements in the first episodes.”
The competition will feature 18 contestants competing for the $1 million prize. Two of these contestants will move forward with a chance to play the game again for “Survivor” 50, titled “In Hands of the Fans.”
The Cast of ‘Survivor’ 49
The cast features a diverse group of players, with the oldest being 52-year-old Matt Williams, an airport ramp agent, and the youngest being 25-year-old Rizo Velovic, a tech salesman. The contestants also include 32-year-old law clerk Jason Treul and 29-year-old fitness trainer Michelle ‘MC’ Chukwujekwu. They initially traveled to Fiji as alternates but were given the role of contestants hours before filming, replacing two contestants who broke the rules, Cosmopolitan reports.
All About the Gameplay
The contestants will be split into three teams, Hina, Kele, and Uli, each consisting of six players. It is also anyone’s game, as Probst revealed it’s impossible to tell who will win in the end.
“The back half of the season is fantastic because you can’t predict who’s going home,” he told Men’s Journal. “There’s no way, because you don’t know, because the players didn’t know — they were changing their alliances so fast, and it wasn’t just willy-nilly, it was all strategy-based.”
There is a lot of hype ahead of Season 50, and fans are really invested in the upcoming season, but Season 49 is not one to be forgotten. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter on September 24, Probst referred to “Survivor” 49 as “a great season.” He also teased that “fans are going to like this season, and clearly we like two of these players enough that we put them on 50.”
