Jason Kelce is celebrating his brother’s big milestone and Taylor Swift’s new role in the family. After Swift and Travis Kelce announced their garden engagement on August 26, Jason shared his reaction on the “New Heights” podcast. “Gigantic piece of ‘New News’ that just hit the waves,” Jason said during the August 26 episode.
Jason’s Sweet Reaction
“We did record this podcast on Monday, which was Travis’s one day off. So, he is not here to address this himself, but we felt it necessary as a team here at ‘New Heights’ to get together and send Travis and Taylor a giant congratulations for being engaged! The proposal heard ‘round the world.”
Inside the Romantic Proposal
The couple, both 35, shared their engagement on Instagram with a carousel of photos taken in a floral-filled garden. In one picture, Kelce was down on one knee, while another showed the two embracing under a pink and white trellis.
Ezra Shaw/Getty ImagesSwift captioned the post, “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married 🧨,” set to her song “So High School.”
The Kansas City Chiefs tight end proposed with a dazzling ring by Kindred Lubeck of Artifex Fine Jewelry. The design featured an Old Mine brilliant cut stone, which Kelce co-created with Lubeck.
Ed Kelce Reveals Proposal Timeline
Jason and Travis’ father, Ed Kelce, told News 5 that the proposal actually happened “maybe two weeks, not quite two weeks ago” at Kelce’s home.
“He was going to put it off till this week. I think she was getting maybe a little antsy, but he was going to put her off till this week, to, you know, make some grand thing, to make it a big special event,” Ed shared. “And I told him repeatedly, you could do it on the side of the road, do it any place that makes it a special event … when you get down on one knee and ask her to marry you.”
Swift’s Record-Breaking Podcast Appearance
The engagement comes just two weeks after Swift joined both Kelce brothers on “New Heights” to reveal the track list and release date for her upcoming twelfth album, “The Life of a Showgirl,” which drops October 3.
Produced with Max Martin and Shellback, the LP includes songs like “Elizabeth Taylor,” “Ruin the Friendship,” “Honey,” and a title track featuring Sabrina Carpenter.
Swift’s podcast debut shattered records, pulling in 1.3 million concurrent YouTube viewers and earning a Guinness World Record for the most-watched podcast stream in a single day.
