How Did This Taylor Swift Ex React to Her Engagement News?

Taylor Swift’s former boyfriend, Taylor Lautner, recently responded to her engagement announcement to NFL star Travis Kelce, showing that positive relationships can last long after romance ends.

The “Twilight” actor, who dated Swift briefly in 2009, took to Instagram to reshare a post from the NFL’s official account celebrating the couple’s engagement news on August 26. His public show of support highlights how the former partners can maintain healthy friendships and celebrate each other’s happiness.

From Romance to Lasting Friendship

Swift and Lautner met while filming the romantic comedy “Valentine’s Day” in 2009 and dated for several months. Their relationship inspired Swift’s song “Back to December” from her “Speak Now “album, which reflected on their time together. Despite their romantic relationship ending, they maintained a positive connection that has grown over the years.

Lautner’s current wife, Taylor Dome, and Swift have become close, with the pop star describing them as some of her “closest friends” during a concert appearance. “He was a very positive force in my life when I was making the Speak Now album,” Swift told a Kansas City crowd when bringing Lautner on stage, according to OK Magazine. “He and his wife have become some of my closest friends, and it’s convenient because we all share the same first name.”

Their friendship reached a new level when Lautner appeared in Swift’s music video for “I Can See You,” a bonus track from the re-release of “Speak Now.” Swift praised his involvement, saying: “I want to say he did every single stunt that you saw in that music video,” according to the outlet.

Lautner shared the same warm feelings, showing his respect for Swift beyond just her music. “I respect you so much. Not just for the singer you are, the songwriter, the performer — but truly for the human you are. You are gracious, humble, kind and I’m honored to know you,” he said at the performance.

Supporting Swift’s New Chapter

When Swift and Kelce’s relationship became public in 2023, Lautner expressed genuine happiness for the couple. In a November 2023 interview with Extra, he shared his excitement: “I’m excited for her. They seem like they’re incredibly happy. As long as she’s happy, I’m happy. She’s crushing it in every aspect of her life right now.”

His response to their engagement announcement was equally supportive. Lautner reshared the NFL’s Instagram post, which featured Swift and Kelce’s engagement photo alongside a celebration shot from the Kansas City Chiefs’ Super Bowl victory. The post included Swift’s quote: “I cannot believe this is really happening,” with the NFL adding simply: “Same.”

Swift and Kelce announced their engagement after two years of dating, sharing the news in a joint Instagram post with the playful caption: “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married,” referencing Swift’s songwriting prowess and Kelce’s athletic career.

The proposal took place in a romantic garden setting in Lee’s Summit, Missouri, approximately two weeks before the public announcement. Kelce’s father revealed that his son had originally planned to wait longer to propose but decided against delaying further. “Travis actually did the proposal, oh, maybe two weeks, not quite two weeks ago,” Ed Kelce told News 5 Cleveland.

The engagement ring, designed with the help of jewelry designer Kindred Lubeck and Artifex Fine Jewelry, features an Old Mine Brilliant Cut diamond estimated to be between 10 and 20 carats, with a value ranging from $1 million to $5 million.
