‘Sister Wives’ Star Opens Up About Their Unexpected Career Path

Fans of TLC’s “Sister Wives” have followed the Brown family’s evolving dynamics for years, from major moves to new career paths. As the family continues to branch out across the country, Mykelti Brown Padron and her husband, Tony Padron, are carving out a path of their own.

The couple recently shared an update on Tony’s unexpected career path, offering fans a closer look at how his unique journey is unfolding. Read on to discover more.

Tony Padron Shares Update on His Growing Chess Career

In a recent YouTube live with Shelise Ann Sola, the host of the podcast “Cults to Consciousness,” Mykelti and her husband, Tony Padron, gave “Sister Wives” fans some insight into the current state of the Brown family. The couple also dove into the progress of Tony’s unusual career path.

On the live, one fan asked, “How is Tony’s chess career going?” Tony quickly reacted, saying, “Dude, don’t get me started! You want to hear about it? I mean, I will nerd out for five minutes if you want.”

The host then asked, “Well, how’s it going?” Tony responded, sharing, “It’s so good. I have a handful of students right now that I teach every week. I teach only virtually, which is great. I’m going to nationals in June as a streamer. So, along with competing, I also will be like one of their main content creators. I’ll be on the streaming panel in Las Vegas.”

The US Chess Federation will be holding its 35th Annual North American Open in Las Vegas, Nevada, from June 10-14, 2026.

Tony continued, adding, “So, that’s huge. And then my chess business partner and I are almost done creating our first chess course. That’s like 80% done. I know it’s going to be out soon. So, I mean, things are great. I freaking love it. My ratings are really good. I smash people online. It’s a good time.”

Tony’s Chess Career Was a Key Reason Behind the Move to North Carolina

Fans of “Sister Wives” may remember that Tony’s chess career was highlighted on Season 19. Christine Brown Woolley and her husband, David Woolley, helped Mykelti and Tony pack up their belongings in St. George, Utah, and move to Charlotte, North Carolina, in the summer of 2024.

The move was an adventure to say the least, as Tony and Mykelti encountered a tornado on their way through Ogallala, Nebraska, and also had to deal with a blown-out tire on their U-Haul trailer.

As highlighted on the show, one of the driving factors behind the move was Tony’s budding chess career, as Charlotte is considered one of America’s chess capitals.

More Brown Family Members Are Now Calling North Carolina Home

Of course, as “Sister Wives” fans may suspect, Janelle Brown’s move to North Carolina and the purchase of Taeda Farms was another reason that made the move to North Carolina look appealing to the Padrons.

While Charlotte is a four-hour drive from where Janelle and Mykelti’s sister, Madison Brown Brush, live on their flower farm, the Padrons have commented that it is nice to have family residing in the same state.

While the older Brown kids primarily grew up out west in Wyoming, Utah, and Nevada, more of Kody Brown’s kids seem to be making the move to the East Coast.

Along with Mykelti and Madison, Janelle and Kody Brown’s youngest daughter, Savanah Brown, and Christine and Kody Brown’s only son, Paedon Brown, have also made the move to North Carolina. That means almost a quarter of the Brown kids now live in North Carolina.

While Tony Padron’s chess career may have once surprised “Sister Wives” fans, his latest update suggests it’s quickly gaining momentum. With new opportunities on the horizon and major events ahead, it’s clear this unconventional path is becoming a serious pursuit.

Combined with the growing number of Brown family members now living in North Carolina, Mykelti and Tony’s next chapter is continuing to take shape in a new way, one that fans will likely be keeping a close eye on.
