Tim Curry’s final public appearance took place in June at a special anniversary event for the movie “Clue.” The event saw the actor reunite with his former co-star Lesley Ann Warren for a Q&A session, just a few weeks after he participated in a similar event to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the murder mystery film.
The “Rocky Horror Picture Show” legend appeared at San Francisco’s Curran Theatre on June 6 for a 40th-anniversary screening of the 1985 comedy, before taking questions from the audience. Curry later died at his Los Angeles home on August 25 at the age of 80.
However, the event seems to have left many people feeling uncomfortable, with a producer later confirming that Curry had suffered a “medical incident” during the Q&A.
Producer Says Tim Curry Experienced Medical Issue During Reunion
The first of the “Clue” anniversary screenings took place on May 17 at the Grove of Anaheim and appears to have gone ahead without any problems. Some of those in the audience went on to discuss the show on Reddit, noting that Curry was alert, friendly, and engaging with the crowd. This event was also filmed and is available to watch online on YouTube.
The second event took place several weeks later but seemingly had a markedly different tone. In the same Reddit thread, several attendees noted that the Q&A was particularly uncomfortable, with some saying Curry did not seem like himself.
One attendee contacted the event organizer and subsequently shared the response they received to Reddit. In the statement, the producer confirmed that Curry had been keen to take part but required medical aid after becoming unwell. No more information was given about the medical incident or what type of care he received.
The statement reads, “This show was part of a small tour that Mr. Curry was excited to join, launching with a well-received event in Los Angeles two weeks ago. We are sad to say that Mr. Curry seemed to experience a medical incident during the Q&A portion of the evening, and he is now in medical care. We wish him well.”
Tim Curry Dies at 80 Less Than 3 Months Later
Curry’s long-time manager announced his death, confirming that the 80-year-old had died peacefully at his Los Angeles home on August 25. No cause of death was provided, although the actor is known to have had several health issues in recent years.
He had lived with significant physical limitations since suffering a major stroke in 2012, which required brain surgery and left him using a wheelchair. He was subsequently able to regain the ability to speak but has continued to require a wheelchair due to the damage to his legs.
Last year, the actor opened up about his feelings on mortality, explaining that he has no fear of death.
“I don’t fear death,” Curry said. “I suspect that at some point I’ll welcome it. I think there is something comforting about saying goodbye.”
