The “American Idol” judges quickly fell in love with Minnesota native Chris Tungseth and his voice when he sang an original tune dedicated to his late dad during auditions. In fact, Luke Bryan believed Tungseth would go far in the competition, and he did, making it to the Top 5 before being eliminated.
Tungseth consistently impressed both the judges and viewers throughout his “Idol” journey, delivering standout performances up until his final moment on stage, where he sang Noah Kahan’s “Northern Attitude” and covered Garth Brooks’ “The Thunder Rolls” with Bucky Covington.
Following his elimination, Tungseth took to Instagram to thank fans for their unwavering support and teased that more music is on the way.

Top 5 finalist Chris Tungseth is extremely grateful for how far he has come in his “American Idol” season 24 journey. The Fergus Falls native took to Instagram after his elimination on the May 4 episode to thank his fans for helping him get this far in the competition, allowing him to share his love of music on stage and grow as an artist.
Sharing photos of his Top 5 performances, where he got a chance to duet with the Class of 2006’s Bucky Covington, Tungseth wrote, “so many things to say, so many people to thank, so much love left to give.”
“THANK YOU. From the bottom of my heart. @americanidol has been the craziest rollercoaster ride and I’m so incredibly grateful for every second.”
He continued, “YOU GUYS HAVE HAD MY BACK SINCE THE START. Your prayers have been felt, your support has been heard. I feel every bit of it. It’s hard for my little brain to comprehend how unbelievable this experience has been. you guys are seriously the best. I love you more than words can express & I’ll never forget the work God’s done. The ways you guys have poured into me. This has His hand written all over it.”
Tungseth then teased that his musical journey was not over, promising fans that they would hear original music from him very soon.
