Lopez may still turn heads on the red carpet, but she says her approach to fitness looks very different than it did years ago.
For Lopez, staying healthy is no longer about spending endless hours in the gym. It’s about working with purpose and finding a routine that supports her body for the long haul.
During a conversation with Gayle King, the actress and singer explained that she no longer believes harder always means better when it comes to working out. Instead, she focuses on efficiency and listening to what her body needs.
“I think I’ve gotten good at working out what I need to work out without killing myself. I think when I was younger, I was, like, doing all the things and working so hard. And now, I work smarter, not harder. You know?”
These days, Lopez prioritizes strength training and making every minute count during her workouts.
She said building muscle has become increasingly important as she’s gotten older.
“That’s what my trainers and I think about a lot. It’s like, I have 40 minutes for you right now, and we need to maximize that – and we do. I lift heavy, I do a lot of weights now because as you get older, you need to start doing that in your 30s, and you need to do that because, even if you’re like, into cardio and you want to be slim or drop weight or whatever, muscle is the thing that burns fat. And as we get older, we lose the muscle. So, we need to build the muscle to keep a youthful appearance, you know?”
Why Fitness Remains a Priority for Jennifer Lopez
Despite a demanding schedule that includes filming, performing, and raising a family, maintaining a healthy routine remains one of her top priorities.
“It’s no secret that fitness is a very important part of my life,” she told Us Weekly in 2023.
“I think there’s a positive correlation between exercise and mental health. When you find a good balance through determination and focus, we’re naturally pushing to be the best version of ourselves.”
More than 30 years into her career, Lopez continues to show that consistency self-carer,e and confidence are just as important as any workout routine.
