Mariah Carey Reveals ‘Life-Changing Moment’ Recording New Album (VIDEO)

Legendary songstress Mariah Carey has performed with many of the greatest performers of her time, but collaborating with The Clark Sisters for her newest album, “Here For It All,” blew the former “American Idol” judge away.

During Carey’s appearance on “The Jennifer Hudson Show” on September 30, 2025, she described working with the gospel group as a “life-changing moment.”

Mariah Carey Says Her Favorite Collaboration on New Album is With Anderson.Paak

When Jennifer Hudson asked Carey about the featured collaborations on “Here For It All,” her 16th album, Carey said her favorite one is the duet she recorded with Anderson. Paak, with whom she has sparked buzz about a romance in recent weeks, photographed holding hands.

Carey said, “We have a song together called ‘Play This Song’ and it’s a duet and, um, we’ve been practicing. It’s good.”

But Carey’s favorite experience recording the new album was working with The Clark Sisters, a beloved sister group who’ve released 20 gospel albums since 1966.

“They came to my house when I was living in Atlanta,” Carey said, “and I had been working on this one song called ‘Jesus I Do.’ The ladies came and sang it with me and added their own parts … added little different stuff to sing and say, and melodies of course. It was a life-changing moment.”

“I’m sitting here wishing I was a fly on the wall,” Hudson said in awe.

“I wish you had been,” Carey replied. “It was so great. It was a creative moment. It really was. We had so much fun. I had so much fun. I don’t know if they enjoyed themselves, but I did. I was like, ‘Thanks.'”

Hudson laughed, “She’s so humble. You see that?”

Mariah Carey Says She Still Plans to Release Her 90s Alternative Album

During her appearance on Hudson’s show, Carey took several questions from the audience, including one fan who asked about the status of her “alternative grunge” album.

“I’m just waiting to put it out,” Carey said of the album. “I’m not sure what the holdup is, but it’s an alternative album, and I started it in ’96 and I held it to myself ‘cuz that’s when I was doing stuff like ‘Fantasy’ and ‘Always Be My Baby’ and all those kinds of songs.”

The album came up during Carey’s September 29 appearance on “The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon,” too, when Fallon told her that QuestLove, who leads the “Tonight Show” band The Roots, brought in a bootleg copy on his laptop.

Fallon said QuestLove made him try to guess the singer, and he named several 90s grunge artists. When he learned it was Carey, Fallon said he “freaked out” and “listened to 10 tracks.”

Carey allowed him to play a snippet of one song, called “Prom Queen,” and he then suggested, “Maybe this could be another Christmas gift from Mariah if (it was released).”

“I don’t know, doesn’t really go with the season,” Carey laughed. “It’s more Halloween!”
