Tributes are pouring in for country music icon Dolly Parton, who died on Tuesday, August 25, after being diagnosed with cancer. The country superstar was 80.
Parton’s passing was announced by her nephew Bryan Seaver in a touching statement on Instagram, in which he shared that Parton “spent her life and career bringing joy, laughter, hope and integrity into everything she touched.” Those words could not be more fitting, as several celebrities who had the privilege to work closely with her, whether it was through music, acting, or in business, shared heartfelt memories, reflecting on the profound impact she had on the world.
In a touching Instagram post, former “American Idol” judge and choreographer Paula Abdul shared a sweet memory of working alongside Parton in the late 80s.

GettyPaula Abdul’s tribute to the late Dolly Parton is a beautiful walk down memory lane, as she shared a clip on Instagram of the 1986 film “A Smoky Mountain Christmas,” starring Parton, and featured an opening scene choreographed by Abdul.
In fact, fans can spot Abdul at the very beginning of the clip, where she appears to be directing the dancers during the opening sequence before the film cuts to Parton’s character, country music star Lorna Davis, working on a music video.
“So heartbroken to hear of Dolly’s passing. I loved her dearly and feel so grateful that I had the opportunity to work with her. This is a special memory from A Smoky Mountain Christmas in 1986, when I choreographed this performance for her 🤍,” Abdul wrote.
She continued, “Years ago, we were both managed by the wonderful Sandy Gallin, which gave me the gift of getting to know her beyond her incredible talent. Her kindness and light were truly one of a kind. Rest in peace, @dollyparton 🙏🏼 XoP.”
In the comment section of Abdul’s post, fans shared memories of watching the 1986 film, which was essentially a modern, Christmas-themed retelling of Disney’s “Snow White.”
“Smoky Mountain Christmas was one my most favorite Christmas movies ever as a kid! You and Dolly have always been my favorites as well, so to learn that you and her worked in this movie together makes it even more special to me!” A comment read.

‘American Idol’ Stars Remember Parton
GettyThe “American Idol” family shared touching tributes to the late Parton, including Carrie Underwood, who had performed alongside the “I Will Always Love You” songstress on multiple occasions.
Taking to Instagram, Underwood reflected on the many memories she made over the years singing alongside Parton. “She’s not gone. I know exactly where she is. She was the epitome of faith, grace, talent, beauty and humor,” her post began.
“She had a humble heart for Jesus and made everyone around her feel special. She was probably the one person on planet Earth that everyone loved and could agree on. She was a one of one and no one will ever come close,” Underwood wrote.
“American Idol” host Ryan Seacrest also honored Parton, sharing a touching message from his Ryan Seacrest Foundation.
“Dolly spent a lifetime reminding children to dream big, and then doing everything she could to help make those dreams possible. We’ll always be grateful that her generosity extended to Seacrest Studios and the patients we serve. Her kindness, her belief in children and the joy she gave so freely will live on for generations,” it read.
“American Idol” season one winner Kelly Clarkson also took to Instagram to share a sweet message about Parton. The two performed together on “The Kelly Clarkson Show” in 2022, where they performed a rendition of “9 to 5” and “I Will Always Love You.”
“Dolly Parton had a way of making everyone feel special, and seen, and welcomed, and as if you were old friends,” she began. “I will miss her heart and her voice as I am sure millions will. What an incredible gift and talent she was and still is with an amazing catalogue of art she has left behind for all of us.
