Sasha Farber Thinks ‘American Idol’ Star Should Compete on DWTS

After spending a great deal of time with the cast and contestants of “American Idol” this year, longtime “Dancing With The Stars” pro Sasha Farber thinks Carrie Underwood would make a great dance partner on a future season of DWTS.

Serving as a mentor to contestants on the 24th season of “American Idol,” Farber appeared on Danielle Fishel’s new “American Idol” podcast on April 1, 2026, and gave the inside scoop on Underwood’s little-known dance skills.

Farber, who’s been a DWTS pro since 2012, was recruited by “American Idol” producers to be part of the show’s first Ohana round. In January, he traveled to Disney’s Aulani Resort & Spa in Hawaii with a group of “industry tastemakers,” per ABC, to assess the Top 30 contestants’ stage presence and vocal performances.

They also spent time with host Ryan Seacrest, Underwood and her fellow judges, Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie, at a premiere party, where Farber was seen giving Underwood some dance tips.

When Fishel asked him on her podcast if he’s trying to recruit her for the next DWTS season, he quipped, “Hey, the ball was hit. Now it’s in her court.”

“She was really good, though,” he noted. “She was really good. And I didn’t tell I was gonna dip her. So I was like, ‘I’m just gonna do it — boom!’ And she was like, bam! That was like ’10!'”

No word on whether Underwood would ever consider a run on DWTS. She does have an awfully busy schedule between judging, recording new music, touring, and raising two boys on her farm near Nashville with her husband, former NHL player Mike Fisher.

Sasha Farber Also Dipped ‘American Idol’ Contestant Hannah Harper: Here’s Why

Farber didn’t want to name his favorites among the season 24 contestants, but told Fishel that he’s loved seeing 25-year-old stay-at-home mom Hannah Harper come out of her shell.

“In Hawaii, she was very closed off, it’s like she was scared,” he told Fishel. “She had her guitar. She sang
amazing, but I feel like she just didn’t capture everyone around. What I wanted from her was just movement — it doesn’t have to be a lot, but I always say ‘devotion to the motion creates the emotion.'”

“So after she performed, I kind of was like, ‘Hey, Hannah, you know you were amazing, and I wish you kind of moved a little,” he continued. “So I got her up, took her for a spin, dipped her. She was really, really good, by the way, really. And then she was like, ‘Sasha, I wish you could stay for the next one, because I’m going to be dancing more.'”

On the March 30 episode, he loved that Harper didn’t have her guitar and said she “looked phenomenal.” Harper hilariously countered Farber’s assessment of her dancing skills in an Instagram post, sharing behind-the-scenes footage of him dipping her.

“American Idol” will be back with another live show on April 6 at 8 p.m. Eastern time.
