As Daniel Craig gets ready to hand over the reins of the “James Bond” character and Rachel Weisz prepares for the return of “The Mummy” franchise, the celebrity couple has made a major real estate move.
Craig and Weisz “have quietly sold their longtime Brooklyn townhouse for $11.8 million—nearly a decade after they snapped up the historical abode for just over half that price,” according to Realtor.com.
The stars, who have been married since 2011 and share three children in their combined family, “purchased their elegant townhome for $6.75 million in August 2017, not long after it had been damaged in a New Year’s Eve fire that caused significant damage to the top floor,” Realtor.com explains.
Additionally, “the sale of the home comes just one year after Craig and Weisz sold an adjacent townhouse for $4.05 million,” per Realtor.com.
The Home Had Been ‘Gutted’ When Craig & Weisz Bought It
Although Craig and Weisz surely could have opted for a home that was in tip-top shape, they instead purchased one that was pretty much a shell at the time.
“When the couple bought the New York home, it had undergone an extensive renovation—including the addition of a new roof—which had left much of the property gutted,” Realtor.com notes. “The listing at the time described it as a ‘clean, blank space’ that was just waiting for an owner to put their own spin on it.”
Indeed, Realtor.com mentions the fact that the stars “bought the landmarked 6,600-square-foot home with approved renovation plans from the Landmarks Preservation Commission.”
The Celebrity Couple Turned their Home Into a ‘Luxury Retreat’
The remarkable townhouse that Craig and Weisz have just sold is a detached brownstone that “sits on a 24.5 x 109-foot lot, with 60-foot deep floors,” the previous listing told potential buyers, via The Real Deal (TRD).
“A purchaser has the option of retaining a huge amount of custom millwork: closets, bookcases, kitchen cabinetry, bathroom cabinets, marble counters, and high end appliances,” the listing also said.
TRD explains that “Weisz and Craig are understood to have carried out an extensive overhaul of the entire five-story abode, turning it into a luxury retreat, complete with an elevator, a roof deck, and a large patio and garden.”
Beyond that, the listing couldn’t leave out the fact that the “massive west-facing backyard is graced by a magnificent Mulberry tree, the kind that tree house dreams are made of!”
