In a rare photo believed to be from the 1960s, Dolly Parton was seen for one of the last times ever without one of her signature platinum wigs that became her trademark. Instead of the voluminous platinum locks for which she’s so well known, the rising star wore her her hair, which appears to be bleached blonde at the top and naturally dark at the ends, in two ponytails draped around her shoulders.
She added a headband, long dangling earrings, and a chain necklace to accessorize her simple white top.
Dolly Parton Previously Declared, ‘I Do Have Hair!’ In an Interview
In a 2013 interview with “60 Minutes Australia, Dolly said, “I do have hair. But I usually just kinda wear it up in a little scrunchie or something, just with my casual clothes. But when I’m performing or out in public, I like to wear the wigs cause they’re handy.”
Dolly, who stood around 5 feet tall, also revealed she enjoys rocking her high heels almost all the time, even at home, laughing, “I’m so little I can’t even reach my cabinets unless I put my shoes on.” She continued, “Of course there are times when I’m not overdone, let’s put it that way. But I always try to put on a little makeup for my husband (Carl Dean), and just fix my hair a little bit. You know, fluff it with some hot rollers or put my hair up in a scrunchie. Cause I don’t wanna look too tacky for him. She added, “I tidy up a little bit, but I have my downtime.”
Dolly Parton’s Hair Evolution
As a child, Dolly usually wore her hair short and close-cropped. She’s seen above at age 13 on the cover of her first record, “Puppy Love.”
In high school, she shifted to the puffy bouffant styles that were popular in the 1960s.
