Hollywood Icon Ann-Margret, 84, Reveals Why She Didn’t Join DWTS for Earlier Seasons, Despite Being Asked

Ann-Margret is a legend in the entertainment industry, and she has starred in many memorable projects, including “Bye Bye Birdie” and “Viva Las Vegas,” but does she want to add to her long list of accomplishments by joining “Dancing with the Stars”?

Ann-Margret Shares Her Love for DWTS

Ann-Margret was asked to share her thoughts about the ABC dance competition and whether she would ever consider taking part in an interview with Parade, published on Friday, April 17. When asked about joining the competition, the actress replied, “Oh, I have no idea. I really am enjoying my time off.”

In her interview, Ann-Margret revealed she is a fan of the show and loves watching it. DWTS is expected to head into Season 35 later this year, although no contests have been announced and the list of returning pros remains a secret. However, Season 34 was incredible, with record-breaking scores and Robert Irwin and his professional dance partner, Witney Carson, taking home the Mirrorball Trophy.

Ann-Margret can relate to the nerves and excitement that the contestants must feel, saying, “I know all of the nerves that go through everybody when, all of a sudden, well, it’s your time to perform and [you think], ‘help!’ I go through the same emotions that they go through.”

Ann-Margret Reveals DWTS Has Wanted Her

Ann-Margret will turn 85 on April 28, and despite recently breaking her elbow, she has been in great health. She revealed that she had actually been asked to be included in DWTS in earlier seasons, but declined. “Through the years, yes,” she said of whether she had been asked to join. “And always, it’s been [bad] timing.”

The star also opened up about her injury. “I fell the other day, and so now my right elbow is broken,” she told Parade. “I’ve done it many times. I just happen to do that all the time, I have fallen so many times. I don’t intend to, but I do! What can I say?” She is recovering well, much to the delight of her fans.

Whether Ann-Margret joins DWTS for Season 35 or a future season remains to be seen, but she is celebrating another exciting milestone later this year. She will be honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2026 Chita Rivera Awards on May 18. The actress shared the announcement on Instagram, and the comment section has been filled with supportive comments from her loyal fans.
