Derek Hough‘s September is about to become very busy. The “Dancing With the Stars” judge will be taking on more work, as “DWTS” season 34 premieres on September 16 and his new gig with “Extra” starts September 8.


Derek Hough Starts His New Job Soon

On September 1, Hough took to Instagram to give fans a behind-the-scenes look at a photoshoot for his upcoming job hosting “Extra.”

“What drew me to ‘Extra’ was my love for entertainment,” he explained.

In the caption, Hough shared his first day is fast approaching. “The countdown is on ⏰” he wrote.

Hough noted, “1 week until we launch the ALL-NEW @extratv! We’re bringing the fun vibes starting
MONDAY, SEPT. 8 🎉.”

The “DWTS” judge added, “What would you like to see? All Ideas welcome 😀.”

The “Extra” Instagram account responded, “One week! Let’s goooo! 🙌”

Fans flooded the comments section with notes praising Hough for landing the gig. “Congratulations Derek. Good luck and you got this,” one fan wrote.

“Can’t wait, been watching it forever. You’re gonna ace it,” another person wrote.

One follower called him the “busiest man in Hollywood.”

Another person noted, “WOW Derek! With you co-hosting, it will be amazing! All the very best in your new endeavor!”


Derek Hough Announced as New ‘Extra’ Host

On August 13, Hough was announced as the new host of “Extra,” with the show’s Instagram account noting, “Breaking News @derekhough is your new #ExtraTV Host!” Hough replaces host Billy Bush, who left the show.

In the video, Hough takes a seat in the “Extra” host’s chair and grabs a microphone, ready to take on the role.

“The ballroom has been my stage, my home, and my launchpad,” Hough said in a statement. “Now, I’m stepping into an exciting new spotlight as the host of ‘Extra.'”

The “DWTS” judge continued, “I’m truly looking forward to collaborating with this incredible team, diving into this next creative chapter, and connecting with fans and audiences in a whole new way. It’s an honor to join a show that’s been a cornerstone of entertainment news for over 30 years — and I’m ready to help lead it into a bold, fresh new era for Season 32 and beyond.”
