Dancing With the Stars pro Jenna Johnson shared that her 2-year-old son, Rome, spent part of the night in the hospital after a sudden health scare. In an Instagram Story update posted on Oct. 7, Johnson reassured followers that her toddler is now doing well and resting at home.
“Wanna preface this by saying everything’s fine now and thank goodness Rome is home sleeping. But this was our night last night ❤️🩹,” she wrote, alongside a video of herself holding Rome in a hospital bed. In the clip, the little one could be seen wearing an oxygen mask while cuddled against his mom. Johnson then panned the camera toward her husband, Val Chmerkovskiy, who played a children’s cartoon on his phone to help soothe their son.
Johnson didn’t specify what led to the hospital visit but assured fans that Rome is recovering. “Everything’s fine now,” she emphasized in her post.
‘Our Absolute Rock Through It All’
In a follow-up post, Johnson praised Chmerkovskiy for staying calm during the stressful night despite preparing for a live Dancing With the Stars episode the next day.
“This guy right here. Our absolute rock through it all,” she wrote. “The calm during the storm. Not one time mentioning his exhaustion or lack of sleep going into a show day. Only making sure that our baby is taken care of and mama is staying sane lol. Beyond grateful to do life with you 🥹😭✨❤️.”
Chmerkovskiy also addressed the night on his own Instagram Story, describing it as an “eventful evening.” The professional dancer assured fans that “all is good” and joked that he was feeling “underslept” but ready for Disney Night’s taping on Oct. 7. He later posted a short video of their family driving home, showing Rome awake and sounding cheerful in the back seat.
This isn’t the first time Johnson and Chmerkovskiy have shared a health update about their son. In May 2024, Johnson revealed that Rome had been hospitalized after experiencing breathing issues from a severe case of croup. At the time, she said he struggled to get enough oxygen during a coughing attack but made a full recovery after medical care.
Family First
The couple, who welcomed Rome in January 2023, frequently share family moments with fans on social media. Just a day before the hospital visit, Chmerkovskiy posted a touching compilation from his Dancing With the Stars rehearsals, featuring clips of his son visiting the set.
“My whole heart. ❤️ What a moment in time,” he captioned the video.
Fans quickly flooded the comments with love for the family. “Val, you’re such an amazing dad to Rome, I hope you truly know that,” one user wrote, while another added, “He’s such a mini version of you! Jenna and you are so blessed.” Fellow DWTS contestant Danielle Fishel also commented, “This is the best.”
Through it all, Johnson has continued to express gratitude for her family’s strength and support system. As she told followers after the scare, “Thank goodness Rome is home sleeping.”
