“Dancing With the Stars” alum and “Sex and the City” star Jason Lewis is embracing one of his most iconic roles in a new campaign that has fans feeling nostalgic.
The 54-year-old actor stars in a new advertisement for Owl’s Brew Spiked Pop that playfully references his days as Smith Jerrod, Samantha Jones’ younger boyfriend on the hit HBO series.
The campaign opens with Lewis stepping out of a cab, removing his sunglasses and asking, “Did you miss me?” He then pokes fun at his modeling career and even reacts to a Samantha lookalike walking by with the line, “Still got a type.”
The ad also includes a callback to one of the most memorable moments from the first “Sex and the City” movie. When a sushi roll is tossed his way, Lewis catches it and jokes, “I was ready this time,” referencing the scene where Samantha throws sushi at Smith during an argument.
According to People, Lewis enjoyed the self-aware approach to the campaign and appreciated the chance to revisit the character in a fun way.
“Look, if you can’t laugh at yourself, then you haven’t really grown,” he told the outlet.
Jason Lewis Says ‘Sex and the City’ Still Connects With Fans
More than 20 years after Smith Jerrod first appeared on screen, Lewis believes the series continues to resonate because of its writing and relatable characters.
“It connects to us because it gives us some reflection on ourselves,” he told People. “I think that’s why good writing lasts the test of time.”
Lewis also shared why he thinks Smith remains one of the franchise’s most beloved characters.
“I think that there was an element written into the character that was kind and authentic,” he said. “He wasn’t trying to put himself above others. And he operated in a genuine space.”
The actor revealed that fans still frequently bring up Smith and Samantha’s relationship. In particular, many reference the episode “The Domino Effect,” where Samantha struggles to show affection publicly.
According to Lewis, viewers still haven’t fully gotten over the couple’s breakup.
“I hear often that she was a fool and that I should still be with her,” he joked.
The Actor Has Been Working on a Massive New Project
While Lewis is revisiting his past on screen, much of his focus today is on a completely different creative venture.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the actor quietly relocated to Costa Rica several years ago, where he has been developing an ambitious fantasy book series.
The project consists of three interconnected trilogies spanning nine books and explores themes including power, redemption and self-worth. Lewis told the outlet he spends much of his time writing and building the world of the series, which he described as epic fantasy similar to “The Lord of the Rings.”
The actor recently returned to Instagram after largely staying out of the public eye and said he hopes to create a genuine community around the project rather than simply focus on self-promotion.
For now, though, Lewis is proving that fans still have plenty of affection for Smith Jerrod, one of the most memorable love interests in “Sex and the City” history.
