Julianne Hough is opening up about a new role she’s loving seeing her brother step into.
The “Dancing with the Stars” co-host recently shared that watching Derek Hough become a father has been one of the most meaningful moments for her as a sister. Speaking at the Disney 2026 Upfront event in New York City on May 12, Julianne reflected on Derek welcoming his first child, daughter Everley Capri, with wife Hayley Erbert Hough in December 2025.
“It’s honestly my favorite version of who he is,” Julianne said, per People. “I think I’ve been lucky enough to watch my brother grow into an incredible man and a husband, and now a father. I think it’s my favorite version.”
Her comments highlight just how much she has seen Derek evolve over the years, from a professional dancer and performer to a husband and now a hands-on dad.
Derek Hough Embraces Fatherhood and Family First
Derek has also been open about how much fatherhood has shifted his perspective. The “Dancing with the Stars” judge described becoming a dad as a defining moment in his life, calling it “the pinnacle” and saying everything else now feels like “a bonus.”
He has even shared how emotional the transition has been. Shortly after Everley’s birth, Derek attended the 2026 Golden Globes but skipped the afterparties to head home to his daughter.
“I remember saying it out loud for the first time: ‘No, no. I’m going straight home to my daughter,’” he told People, admitting the moment made him emotional.
The couple’s journey to parenthood has also added deeper meaning to this chapter. Derek and Hayley previously faced several challenges, including a serious car accident, a major health scare and a miscarriage, making Everley’s arrival especially significant. Hayley later described their daughter as “our rainbow after the storm.”
Derek has also shown his appreciation for his wife in thoughtful ways. For Mother’s Day, he surprised Hayley with a sentimental gift tied to their baby shower, explaining in a TikTok that the piece symbolized “life and growth and strength.”
Julianne Steps Into Proud Aunt Role
As Derek settles into fatherhood, Julianne is embracing her role as a supportive and excited aunt.
Derek praised his sister for her bond with Everley, telling People that she is already stepping into the role effortlessly. “She’s gonna be the best aunt in the world,” he said. “My girl’s gonna get spoiled — that’s for sure — from Aunt Julianne.”
Julianne has previously shared that watching Derek prepare for this chapter also sparked something personal for her. During a November 2025 appearance on “The Jennifer Hudson Show,” she joked, “My ovaries are screaming. I’m ready to be a mom.”
She explained that seeing her brother start a family made her look at life “through different eyes,” even though she has been an aunt since she was young.
Now, seeing Derek as a father in real time has only deepened that admiration.
