Julianne Hough has been rocking a bob for a while, but she’s looking to change up her hairstyle in a huge way. Find out why the “Dancing With the Stars” co-host says shaving her head is a “weird” lifelong goal and her plan for making it a reality.
Julianne Hough Shares Shaved Head Plan
Hough has some bold goals beyond the dance floor — the “DWTS” host shared that she’s had a lifelong dream to shave off all her hair.
During the September 9 episode of the “Not Skinny But Not Fat” podcast, Hough shared, “I have this thing on my list of things I want to do. It started as one thing, now it’s expanded. Now it’s expanded to, I want to go to Bhutan and shave my head with a monk.”
She noted, “So, it was just ‘shave my head,’ but now there’s two added layers: Bhutan and a monk.”
The “DWTS” host is seriously considering changing up her look, and even has a plan. “I literally called my hairstylist Riawna and I was like, ‘I think we need to make a wig that is my exact haircut right now,'” she said.
“I was like, ‘We need to replicate this as a wig so that I can just [shave it] and then know that I’m good for work,” Hough explained.
The dancer added, “It’s weird. I’ve been wanting to do this my whole life.”
She noted how there’s a liberating aspect of shaving her head. “It’s my outward expression of whatever I go through internally,” she said, adding, “And I’ve been through a very big excavation process recently and I’m like, ‘Take it off!'”
Hough explained, “The last seven years, all the things I put into place — the systems of protection of who you think you should be — all of them have gone away. So I’m like, ‘Oh last thing, I should just shave my head now.'”

The former “DWTS” dance pro first showed off her classic bob in January 2024.
Her stylist, Riawna Capri, told R+Co at the time, “We wanted a bright, bold change for the new year, and that we did!”
She added, “One day at ‘Dancing with the Stars,’ it hit her — she was ready, I could feel it. We instantly started looking at the calendar to see when was best.”
Capri noted that she has been doing Hough’s hair for 15 years. “And I am proud to say, with all the changes throughout the years, we did something different,” she shared. “It feels so good to be able to have so many changes over all the years and yet still create something new.”
