“Dancing With the Stars” pro Mark Ballas has taken on many roles throughout his career — dancer, musician, and even Broadway performer. But perhaps his most meaningful role is that of husband and father.
Ballas has been married to singer-songwriter BC Jean since 2016, and the couple welcomed their first child, son Banksi Wylde Ballas, in November 2023. Since then, they’ve delighted fans by sharing heartfelt photos and videos of their family life.
Mark Ballas & BC Jean’s Love Story
According to People, Ballas and Jean first crossed paths at a songwriter night hosted by a mutual friend. Jean recalled to Riff Magazine that it was “a fun party night where singers and musicians would get up and perform.” After the event, the pair exchanged numbers and began dating in 2012.
Ballas said he was immediately struck by Jean’s voice, telling the outlet, “Right when I got there, the whole room was just watching this girl on stage, and she was killing it. Her voice gave me the feels of a Janis Joplin. I was just blown away.”
The couple’s connection quickly grew, both romantically and musically. In 2015, they formed the band Alexander Jean, combining their middle names. The duo has since performed together across the country, merging their personal and creative lives seamlessly.
They got engaged in January 2016 and tied the knot later that year in November.
Reflecting on their relationship, Jean has said, “We’re each other’s muses. For some people, spending that much time together doesn’t work out well, but for Mark and I, we’re a balancing act. When one’s down, the other picks them up.”
Mark Ballas & BC Jean’s Son Banksi
In June 2023, Ballas and Jean announced they were expecting their first child. Just months later, their son, Banksi Wylde Ballas, was born on Nov. 5, 2023. The couple waited one month to share the news publicly.
“Welcome to Earth my son,” Ballas wrote on Instagram alongside a photo of the newborn. Jean added in her own post: “Happy one month sweet boy. You are so loved.”
Although they are selective about how much they share of Banksi online, Ballas occasionally offers fans sweet glimpses into fatherhood.
In March 2024, he posted a carousel of photos on Instagram, which included snapshots of Banksi’s backpack, his playroom chair embroidered with his name, and even a candid photo of Ballas holding his son’s hand as they walked together. Fans filled the comments with love, writing things like, “Little man is getting so big!!” and “Thanks for sharing the family with us.”
The couple are also proud dog parents to Hendrix, their beloved pup who frequently appears in their social media updates. Hendrix even had a starring role in Jean’s pregnancy reveal to Ballas, wearing a “Big Brother” bandana to share the exciting news.
