Heather Rae El Moussa doesn’t talk about it as often lately, but she’s admitting to Peta Murgatroyd that in her heart she continues to long for another baby with husband Tarek El Moussa.
The HGTV designer got candid- and emotional- when she sat down with the “Dancing With the Stars‘” pro as the first guest in her brand new podcast, “The Penthouse With Peta.”
The podcast is filmed at the historic Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel’s Gable & Lombard Suite in Los Angeles.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, the series will see Peta sit down with fellow reality television stars to talk motherhood, entrepreneurship, careers and reality TV.
New episodes will drop every Friday on Spotify and Apple Podcasts, and full video episodes will be available on Peta’s “The Penthouse With Peta” YouTube channel.
Heather El Moussa Gets Tearful About Babies
In the podcast, Heather Rae El Moussa revealed that she and husband Tarek got pregnant unexpectedly just a few months before they planned to try their first round of in vitro fertilization.
They already had embryos frozen. “Tarek had testicular cancer, so he has one testicle. And I had low fertility. So we just didn’t think we’d be able to,” Heather revealed. But to their surprise, they got pregnant. “We got pregnant, I think it was July, and we were going to implant in October,” Heather said.
“We had already done the embryos. We had four. We had three boys and a girl,” Heather went on. “Our boys were strong so we were gonna put a boy in.”
Heather and Tarek now have nearly two-and-a-half year-old Tristan. But talking about babies made Heather tear up.
“I get emotional,” she admitted. “You know, I want to have another baby. I’m kind of like in that state right now. I have two beautiful stepkids. I have my son. So I get like emotional because of the one baby thing, and being a woman, I’m like ‘am I ok only having one?’”
Peta Murgatroyd Has a Similar Story in Her Efforts to Expand Family
“It’s so mentally and physically draining,” Peta Murgatroyd shared about in vitro fertilization and the struggle to have children. “I did it one time and I said to Max [husband, Maksim Chmerkovskiy] ‘I’m so sorry it didn’t work’ and it’s that split second that it’s like ‘wait, I did this for three months’ and then it’s like that one sentence that it can come crashing down.”
Peta said it was when she let go of the pressure that things changed. “I got pregnant naturally as soon as I let go of… I want to say.. the feeling of having just one child,” she explained.
“I sat outside, literally looked up at the stars, and I was like ‘I give in, I’m done, like I need to start being frickin’ happy or I’m gonna lose everybody around me,” Peta told Heather. “And it was a week later that I got pregnant naturally,” she said smiling.
“We both couldn’t believe it. We’d gone through so much with the IVF and all the miscarriages, and I truly believe it will happen for you,” she told Heather.
Heather Says She & Tarek Are Still At Odds Over Expanding Their Family
But Heather revealed that it’s not that simple.
But Heather says, “Well, mine is more that my husband doesn’t want another one, necessarily.”
Peta asked, “Is that a definite no?”
“No,” answered Heather. “It’s not. And I did actually speak to the universe the other day. Because I’m like, you know, if it’s meant to be, it’ll happen for us and just kind of let it go. Because every time I would talk about it, I would get emotional, like a mourning.”
“My husband doesn’t always see that,” Heather added. “Because I’m smiling, and I’m having fun and I’m like ‘well, everyday I’m not going to tell you that I’m mourning maybe not having a baby.”
Peta was quick to agree, saying she often hid her pain from her husband. “Max wouldn’t see me cry 90% of the time. It would be in the shower or into my pillow before I got up.”
