How Rachael Ray and Her Husband Make Their Marriage Work With Different Living Preferences

Rachael Ray and her husband, John Cusimano, have been married for more than 20 years. Despite their long-lasting marriage, the couple has very different living preferences.

The Food Network star prefers to spend her time in Italy, while her husband is a New Yorker through and through.

“I live [in Italy] as long and as much as I can,” Ray told People in an interview published last October.

The former “Rachael Ray Show” host has largely moved to Italy since her syndicated daytime talk show wrapped in 2023.

“My husband loves New York, prefers New York,” Ray told People. “And he has a rock ‘n’ roll band, and so he spends a lot of time here. I spend as much time as I can there. We work in both places.”

She added, “I tell John all the time, however much time he wants to spend here, do it.”

She went on to explain that the couple’s rescue dog, Bella, “hates New York.”

“She’s a rescue from two foster homes in a kill shelter. You know our house burned down when we first adopted her,” the “Rachael Ray in Tuscany” host said. “She had to be specially trained. She just can’t handle the sound and the lack of land, grass and woods of New York. She just can’t handle it, so I stay in Italy as much as possible. She’s there now, by the way.”

Since her hit series ended, Ray has been spending more time in Italy, often documenting her time there on social media.

“My family is from Italy, and I’ve always wanted to live in Italy,” she said. “It’s my life’s dream. And I’m in my 50s. I worked my whole life to live there. And we have a huge garden, orto, and we make our own wine. We press our own olive oil. We have a freshwater pool so my dog can drink water and swim at the same time. I just love the peace of it and the smell of the air.”

Rachael Ray and John Cusimano’s Relationship Timeline

The television personality met her now-husband at a mutual friend’s party in 2001.

“John and I didn’t meet until later in life, and didn’t get married until we were almost 40,” she told People in 2021. “We knew who we were. … We’re very good with giving each other space to work on our passions.”

The European country holds a special place in the couple’s relationship, as they tied the knot at a Tuscany castle in 2005. They now live in the place where they were married.
